Thinking of getting my first Skoda

Featured Replies

Hi all, my first post here, I am a happy Mazda 6 owner (Sport 2.3) but the new Mazda6 is way too big and too much like the Mondeo. So, I am thinking of the vRS Petrol will be buying new. I have a few questions as I have not seen or test driven them yet, but the spec, size and good reviews seem to be encouraging. I'd want the Xeons, auto wipers and lights and sunroof.

I'd like the DSG, what's it like, does it use flappy paddle gear change?

What's the stereo like? I am pleased with my Bose 7 speaker setup, is the Skoda's similar spec?

Are the seats hard with the leather? Any complaints?

Anyone know if there is a standard brand for tyres and what grade of oil/brand is used on the 2.0T engine?

Sorry for all the Q's, my only grip at the moment is the issue of the rusting on the hatch that many have reported and the rather dull interior, again I like mine but the new M6 is again quite dull.

Anything else I should look out for? My local dealer is Allans of Epsom so I wonder if they offer 24hr test drives or something??

Thanks fellers

James

If you are referring to Allams Skoda in Epsom you'll be pleased to know they are a Briskoda partner Allams Skoda BRISKODA Partners - Allams Skoda at BRISKODA.net - BRISKODA - The Skoda Forums. The man you need to speak to is James Rothwell, i'm sure he'll be able to sort something out with you

The seats in the vRS are very comfy, my other half has the vRS TDI and I have no complaints with the seats. I personally drive an L&K with the full leather interior and again, no complaints from me.

The stereo is your run of the mill 4 door speaker + 4 tweeter effort. Its not bad but its isnt any Bose/HK setup. If possible you should consider the Columbus navigation system either fitted from the factory or retro fitted later on, its fantastic!

Continental tyres seem to be a factory choice of tyre but this can and will vary depending on who does the best deal on the day. The oil will have to be per the VW/Audi spec. My QG1 TDI needs oil that conforms to VW 507.00 and its recommended you do the same with the relevent TFSI oil spec. Most common brands of oil you find in Halfords will state what standard they achieve.

No experience with the DSG i'm afraid

No experience with the rusty hatch issue either, ours is fine :) I can't believe its a widespread problem though as the Octavia has a pretty robust anti corrosion warranty.

Good luck and of course welcome to Briskoda

James at Allams will be able to sort something out for you, very friendly place and a test drive shouldn't be a problem

On th whole i like my Vrs PD TDi. The dealer I use in Macclesfield is pretty good but with it being a lease car I dont have any experience of service costs.

If you can put up with the odd rattle and squeak then you should be happy enough with it.

Made a similar move from a Honda Accord Type S to a PD vRS for similar reasons, i.e. the 'Mondeo' class of cars is getting too big. I have no regrets at making the change, and have been pleased with the experience and the car.

Thanks for your help guys. I really like my M6, its just I always like to know where I'm heading and what with the new M6 being so big I can aim for a vRS.

Bit of a shame re the stereo, I am not into big bass but my Bose sounds very resonable, I don't think you can get the Columbus system on the vRS.

Does anyone know when the Octy 3 is out?

Cheers,

James

The Octavia has just been revised making it a kind of Octavia 2.5 if you will. The Mk3 will not be out for a good few years yet. The vRS and Scout faclifts will follow shortly.

There is no reason why the navigation system shouldn't be available on the vRS either.

Don't pay too much attention to the Skoda website, the information on there is somewhat inaccurate. You are best off with the latest brocure.

If that's an issue you could always retrofit a Columbus as many of us here have done. A search will give you everything you need to know.

You can get Columbus on the vRS as an option if you're willing to pay for it - reckon on about £1500 though...

I had the bose system in my Mazda 6 TS2 but that was 143ps diesel

if you like your mazda have you considered looking at the mazda 6 mps? its a real monster :)

That's not available in the new Mazda 6 yet is it?

I saw some pics of the new Mazda 3 MPS and that looked very tasty.
