Ipod though Stream HU options?

Featured Replies

I've got an 06 octy with a Stream HU.

It's one of the later Stream models that has Bass , Mid and Treble tone controls and menu options for an Aux input. As I understand it though , this was basically a **** up and there's no physical connectors on the back of the stereo and no way of selecting the Aux input.

I fancy buying an Ipod (or similar MP3 player) and would like to be able to use it in the car.

What options do I have?

A) replace the HU with a Stream MP3 or an Audience which will probably cost at least £100 and may mean faffing around with VAG-COM which I don't have.

B) get one of the cables that goes in place of the CD changer - easy enough to do and will cost about £35 and should sound good.

C) use an FM transmitter - nice and cheap , no loss of CD changer but quality may not be brilliant.

Is there anything I've not considered?

Has anyone used the FM option and were you happy with it?

my belkin one which takes 2AAA batteries is good. My griffin itrip 2006 depends on station and vehicle and drains battery from the ipod. and my kensington one charges it and again depends where you sit it.

Somewhere on here is a write up i did where for less than a tenner you can make your own lead and with a proper ipod connector for a stream mp3 radio. however if you get a tape deck a 3.5mm to 3.5mm coupler and the ipod connector i describe + a tape deck cd/ipod connector tape thing you could do it that way too.

I use the Griffin FM transmitter on my 2nd generation iPod Nano. The transmitter plugs into the bottom of the Nano and makes it look like an extra long Nano. The Griffin gets its power supply from the Nano. It transmits well on 107.3 with no interference or loss of quality at all in the London area. I haven't had the opportunity to use it elsewhere in the country. When it is in use I put it behind the strap of the sunscreen to keep it out of the way and to stop it sliding about. I tried it in the tray on the top of the dash but when the lid of this was closed the sound quality deteriorated.

Thanks.

As it happens I may be changing my car soon for something that has a suitable socket anyway , but this is good to know.
