Car is back but........

...... my car has now come back from the shop. Needs to go back for side trim to be fitted and the wheel to be finished off. Apparently the black side trim that arrived had been caught by the staple used to seal the plastic sleave it was in. The wheel was light scuffs to the wheel and the bodyshop didint get authorisation from the insurers. However, they have agreed to do it and fix the trim when it comes in.

I have to say I am very impressed with the overall quality of the workmanship. They had to fit a new door and a new sill. You couldnt tell it has had either replaced and they have done a really good job apart from the following:

  1. two areas of overspray about an inch square. One on the front bumper and one patch on the new door!
  2. an obvious (to me anyway - no on else would notice it) blend line on the front leading edge of the wing
  3. for some reason they have had to either disconnect the electrics to the rear door and they have broken the retaining clip that holds the rubber boot against the central pillar. It was just hanging out when I opened the back door when i got home1

So I need some advice. As follows

  1. should I let them fix the wheel? Only two light scrapes which to be honest werent done in the accident. I dont like the idea of a bodyshop attempting to fix the wheel. Surely it should go to a specialist?
  2. should I try to tackle the three paint issues myself or get them to re-polish the panels when it goes back for the day. They are the "professionals" after all and if I am not happy they should fix it. If I have a go what product should I use?

Really annoyed that they broke the cable fitting and have done nothing about it but they can easily replace that. Also peeved that they missed these paint issues.

Any comments would be appreciated.

To be honest the car should be as good as it was before the damage was done.....keep taking it back until it is all sorted

Take it back until it is 100% right.

Agreed.

They're only small issues but they are contractually obliged to sort it...

Get writing letters!

I read your orignial post some time ago and after having read this one I feel I can add something to the discussion now...............:D

The overspray can be sorted out including helping with the blend line between panels by some 'detailing'...........I agree that the bodyshop should really deliver the car back complete however I have recently detailed two cars that had been to a bodyshop to have some repair work done and they left the paintwork in a heck of a mess after someone had been at it with the mop...............:(

(I can provide some sample pics on request)

Take it back and make them sort it. We don't complain enough any more in this country with the result that retailers are starting to take the pee...

I couldn't agree more!!!!

Thanks for all your comments guys.

Car is being picked up Tuesday and they are gonna get the paint blemishes sorted straight away and fit the rubbing strip. They are also gonna reimburse me for the cost of parts I am getting and fitting myself. The clip and the screws only come to £2 and if do them myself they will be done to my standards and they can the concentrate on the paint. The guy was apologetic and said the car should never have been released like that.

I checked with them today and they do do the wheels in house. Now can they really repair a wheel in less than a full day? They wont pick the car up until 9.00am and then they will drop back at 5.00pm. Just doesnt seem long enough to me.

Car was dusty when they bought it back as you would expect but I made sure it was spotless before it was picked up so it was still relatively clean when they dropped it off. I didn't notice the marks until i got the car in the right light and then they are only just noticeable. No one other than the likes of us (car fanatics) would notice to be honest but I NEED to get them addressed or I will never be truly happy with it. Gonna give the car a gentle wash this weekend and then make sure there aren't any other areas that I need to take up with them.

I am being nice and calm about it all (difficult for me) to make sure that I do not upset anyone at the bodyshop until I get all issues sortde. Then when the cars back and I am happy I may well let loose on the acc mgt company for start!!

Glad it's being sorted, and Baker's right about the defects - I think he's referring to some "repeat" work he's done on a Z4 which has come out the bodyshop, which in fairness looked shocking when the owner got it back from them.

Let us know how they get on the second time!

Well, washed the car after fitting the replacement cable clip that they broke and the missing screw in the wheel arch.

All seemed ok until i dried it off and found following (remember this is in addition to the other **** ups);

1) Some visible marring (only in the right light) on the doors and front wing which I can take care of with my range of products.

2) Needed to refit the rear door rubber as they hadnt fitted that right and it was hanging loose;

3) had to polish the rear passenger door window as there was a fine mist of overspray on the glass. If it hand't been for the tape marks that had left a "x-marks the spot" in the middle of the glass I might not have noticed;

4) Lastly....... and this is the sickner, deep scratch in the paintwork of the new door just where the wing mirror attaches to the door. It looks like a screwdriver gouge about 1/4 inch long right at the top of the door just in front of the wing mirror and the chrome finishing strip. F***ed me right off. Pkus I think it has gone to the metal!!!!!

So, car goes back Tuesday for the three paint blemishes I had already told them about and to fit the side strip they didnt fit. I also need to get the garage to sort out the new f~#@ing scratch as well. I am going to ask them to leave the wheel. I will speak to the Acc Mgt co and see if they will agree to me taking the wheel to a specialist. If they get funny I will just leave it and get it done at a later date.

When the car is sorted a letter of complaint listing the 9 issues I have had to address or get the bodyshop to address will go the acc mgt co and leaseplan who provide the car.

Not being funny, but one or two minor things I would exect and I may have let slide but this catalogue of laziness and sloppy attention to detail has really pi##ed me off and is not acceptable. How this place stays in business I dont know.

I always found that Garages didn't care about lease cars. I had a Co car for over 30yrs and I didn't find one Garage that did care. Mainly Ford, Vauxhall, Toyota and even BMW.

That is a shocking state of affairs!

Looking forward to the name & shame when it's all done and dusted...

Beleive it or not found another blemish in the paint just as they were picking the car up today. I also advised the acct mgt co of the situation and to be fair they have been really good. They were truly shocked that I found 10 issues and that they were so slapdash in their approach. The car was collected today and by the time it was back at the garge the repair network manager was there inspecting the car and he has instructed the bodyshop in question to make sure all the issues are addressed and to my satisfaction. So it goes back again next week for two days. They didnt touch it today. When the guys picked it up today they were less than happy and were obviously p~~sed off that I had said something to the acc mgt company. Not so much a sorry through gritted teeth yet. Thats waht has really hacked me off. The have ballsed up, released a car that hsa so many obvious and preventable issues and yet cant say a simple sorry. Shocking

For anyone interested the car has been back again, returned and all the original defects have been sorted. I say original defects beacuse after giving the car a good wash this morning I found this on the NEW DOOR!! Yes, the new door that is only a week and half old and has been opned a handful of times because we have been using the other car.

So f**king angry!!! :mad: Cowboys. :wall: Told acc mgt company that they can send car somewhere else to get this latest balls up sorted. I am not sending my car back to this shoddy outfit. Once all sorted I will name and shame this disgraceful outfit.

I can totally undrstand you frustration. Years ago I took a Ford Orion to a main For dealer for some major repairs. Got hit majorly on the front off-side wing which actually made the bonnet chip some paint from the near-side wing. When I went to collect the car the bodyshop manager proudly asked me to acompany him to inspect the work. All the work appeared good apart from the fact they had simply used a touch-up stick on the near-side wing. When I refused the car, the guy was really put-out saying..........get this!, "Well it is only a repair, you can't expect it to be perfect". I think he was trying it on because at the time I was quite young but I was having none of it and told him to properly repair it or I would be contacting the insurance company. "We will haveto have it for another few weeks then" he said, thinking that would put me off but it didn't. Anyway it all got sorted in the end but I just couldn't believe his attitude.

Also had a recent run-in with a bdy shop repair outfit on, like you, a leased car. Again sorted now but will never want to use them again either :mad:

Cheers for comment. Sorry you have experienced the same. I just cant believe that bodyshops like this still continue to operate. All I can say is that there must be so many people who get their car back and dont look for or notice imperfections or problems and thats how they get away with it. Just shocking IMHO.
