Unless I am missing some sort of trick in the question.

Is one of those brain teaser things where you actually cycled to work? :P

cycle 40mph. downhill maybe. lol

no trick in the question, will also add that i had to stop 4 times as well for 2 roundabouts and two sets of traffic lights 2 roundabouts i was able to slip on and off without much change to speed. the run is mainly flat as well.

OK i'll stick with 44mpg and i'll also accept the fact you actually drove to work :D

i wouldnt walk and the last time i rode to work (sorry rode home) it nearly killed me and took nearly 45 mins compared to my young nipper years of 20 - 30 mins.

I can assure you its all done in the car following all laws of the road and nothing like being towed or anything (genuine normal drive in).

33mpg

12mpg

12mpg

You allowing for using Optimax?

Allowing for a heavy right foot!

It's either gonna be really high or really low, and I've gone with low! :D

Ill be posting up the evidence shortly and post my mpg, so get your guesses in quick!!

Here we go 47.4mpg, i think a warm day (work afternoons/evenings) and the nice sun to heat the car up to what we have had, a clean air filter about a fortnight ago has helped. Yes i did do the drive without being heavy footed, but after seeing how well my mpg were doing i thought i would try and see how high i could get it

So what was your average speed for the trip?

  • Author

average speed i beleive was 38 mph i know the average for this tankful so far is 33 mph and my average mpg for this tankful is 40.8mpg so far.

Out of interest, have you done any manual calcs on brim-to-brim tank figures, compared with the trip computer?

If it's like most other octavias it will be at least 5% optimistic if not more.

Still , 38mpg on a tankful wouldn't be bad for a 2 litre petrol engine.

sounds very good.

If the 2.0 Tfsi w3as driven for a full tank very conservatively and alwyas changing gear before the turbo started spooling up would it have the same MPG?

Same engine etc, so should be prety similar.

I've only averaged 31.1 over the last 1000 miles or so, but can when driving very conservatively get 37mpg to work and 35mpg going home.

I drove a friend's golf GTI back from manchester in a very economical fashion and managed to get into the low 40s (indicated) without much difficulty.

At those sort of speeds though I'd have expected to get around 60mpg from my PD140

On a recent trip up to Cumbria from Oxfordshire managed 38mpg indicated with cruising at maybe slightly around NSL ;) Would have thought 40mpg was possible if taken easier. Have also managed 42mpg on a more local trip of about 16miles, but god it was hard not using the loud pedal!
