Just collected my first Skoda, a 2001 Octavia 1.8t 4x4 Estate in Natural Green metallic.

Very impressed so far had a journey of over 160 miles to bring it home, averaged 35 mpg and 60 mph.

Are all the gearboxes notchy, mine is quite difficult to get into first and then rather less than positive when choosing another gear, have changed into 1st several times by mistake :(, luckily at low revs.

Is there a fix or do you have to live with it :confused:

Hiya.One of the things that more or less sold me on Skodas was doing a business trip with a hired Octy A4 TDi Ambiante. Not being knackered (just very hungry) after 3 hours in a traffic jam on the M25 says a lot for any car!As to the gearbox, it probably needs the linkage adjusted. For more details of that, check out the Octy 1 forum, and/or buy a Haynes.
