Turbo blown again!! under warranty but have to PAY!!

Featured Replies

here I am again, turbo problems and warranty does'nt cover it:mad:

last june my turbo blew (oil seal/bearing), car was in garage for ages and ended up costing 1035 pounds.

with the new turbo i was given a 12 month warranty, but recently i was having trouble again.

no black smoke, no loss of power, problem was that on boost around 2500rpm it made the most horrendous metallic squeel.

as I had warranty the garage took off the turbo (and they could see no problems with it) and sent the turbo to the supplier who today want to charge me over 200 pounds for repairs to the turbo.

supplier is saying that something in the air system has damaged the turbo. i have a pd160 and filter fitted at great expense before any of these turbo problems.

(no chance of dirt and stuff even reaching the engine)

where do I stand?? How can i prove there was a fault with the turbo or disprove that something sucked in damaged the turbo. My garage are on my side, they could not see any problems with the turbo before sending it away.

Suppliers will do all they can to not respect their warranty.

PLEASE HELP

You cant prove it and neither can they. But as terms and conditions of any warranty you modified the intake which part of the turbo system.

So intake, maf, turbo, intercooler etc etc have no warranty on your car. I'm afraid thats the downside of modifications outside manufacturer spec.

Keep the garage on your side and see if they are able to push for a change of mind I guess, it does sound rather far-fetched IMHO though :(

Is this as standard spec KKK Fabia vRS turbo we're talking about here? Which 'garage' and which 'supplier' is involved?

What repairs have the 'supplier' set out to rectify the problem? Your post is a bit vague :)

P.S. Welcome to the forum by the way!

sorry Thirty3, forgot to mention that the standard intake and new filter was fitted before car was taken to the garage. they know nothing about the pd160.

found out the name of the supplier (midland turbo's) trying to negotiate with there warranty department.

would it be a good idea to ask them to send the damaged part/s so i can get a second opinion. I wont let them win!!

If the garage you took it to then dealt with Midland Turbos for a new/refurbished unit, then your warranty lies with the garage, not Midland Turbos. Get the garage to find out exactly what has failed on the unit, then take it from there. Even if a foreign object in the air system has caused the fault, you may still have an issue to take up with the garage on a warranty claim, as all the pipes should have been blown out and checked when the replacement turbo was fitted.

Steve

I agree with the above..

Wardy is correct , if the "so called foreign object" was in the intake pipework or intercooler after the last turbo failure , then it is down to the garage to foot the bill , as it will be their negligence which has caused this "new" turbo to fail by not cleaning out the pipework previously

it is the kkk turbo, standard spec. my garage is an independent vag specialist. The supplier/remanufacturer of the turbo is midland turbo's.

Im going to give them hell on the phone and will be putting it all onto paper, The garage are not happy with what midland turbo's are saying.

basically the more people I get on my side the better case I have against midland turbo's

Your beef is with the supplier/fitter not the manufacturer. That's the suppliers/fitters issue.

And remember that any warranty is in addition to your statutory rights - the Sales of Goods Act (SoGA).
