how to clay

Featured Replies

ive done a search but not finding what i want. in the normal wash procedure when is best to clay? straight after wash, when wet, in the rain? what is best after clay? another wash? i plan on using most products tomorrow (resin, gloss, wax) after de waxing it as im getting it ready for the summer. tips and advice will be appreciated.

Wash, then clay, can even do it when the car is still wet :)

just wondered as once you have the lubricant on the car you cant really do much can you with resin and then gloss??

Moved for you.

Claying the car is best after you have washed it to get some of the larger contaminents out of the paintwork and lacquer and as stated you need to work in a small area and move around the car but I would suggest that you have a good lube and the right clay as a heavy clay can put marks into the paintwork if it's too harsh...............:(

I would always rinse the car or even better wash it again after you have clayed it............:)

After you wash the car, would you want to dry it first before claying, or do it straight after the wash?

Cheers

no need to dry, the water acts as an added lubricant. Personally i would:

Rinse

Snow foam

Wash

Clay

Wash

Dry

cheers manny for moving thread and cheers all for your answers.

Today i washed the car with a snow foam to soak it in karcher detergent to remove the wax, rinsed it then washed with ag shampoo, rinsed, clayed, AG resin, AG gloss, Collinite and then a very light spray over with AG aqua wax. Did the wheels with AG aquawax, the tyre walls and plastic trims with AG tyre dressing (great for removing wax etc off plastic trim) and the glass with the AG glass cleaner cream.

So now my car is prepared for summer (and no doubt those at todays oxon meet will agree) i wont need to do much now over the course of the summer apart from a quick wash and dry. Got my big weave whaffle towel thing on its way and my new lambs mitt (meguirs) arrived today after i did the car.

Next week will be a quick spray and vac around the inside along with the inside windows.

The clay however didnt find much on the body work (which i didnt think it would) apart from the sides of the back bumper and the alloys (which i was expecting).
