Heater Temp control problems

Featured Replies

This morning, I get in as normal and turn the heater on hot as it's rather chilly out. On the way in, I turn the heat down, but nothing happens. Turn it down to cold and it still blows hot. Stopped at a Sainsburys on the way, then when I restart, it's returned to cold.

On the way home, I turn the heater on medium warm and it is cold. Turn it up to hot and it heats up. Turned it back to cold and it stayed on hot again! It went back to cold after a bit of fiddling, but there doesn't seem to be an in between at the minute. Anyone got any idea's as to what may cause it? Is it possibly a faulty switch?

Cheers for any help peeps.

Ive had exactly the same problem a few times.

it only seems to start to warm up aorund the 19/20c mark.

Which is about right Colin. 22 degrees is considered comfortable ambient temp so id expect it to start getting warm around 19/20. Remember it isnt climatronic, all its doing is moving the cold/warm air flap in the heater box it doesnt regulate temp that precise.

Graeme, it could be a sticky flap motor, diagonstic will be able to check the motors out, get it looked at.

Well if you have both agreed on the flap motor's, then I will get it looked at. Not clued up on that as Toyota still lives in the dark ages with cables. :D

Basically the flap motors are controlled by the ECU behind the heater controls. The only exception on the Fabia is the direction control on the right which still uses a short cable iirc. The ECU needs to know where the fully open and fully closed positions are of the flaps. This is whats known as a basic setting. Quite often the a/c control unit will lose or forget these settings and will need to re learn them, VAS 5051 can do this for you at your dealer (or VAG COM if you have it). Also it may be a case of that the heater has probably been in the same position for some time now as the weather has been pretty mild or late and now you have asked the flap motor to move it dont want to...lol.

It is possible that it has done the last thing as it has been pretty much on cold for the last 3-4 months.

Seemed to be a bit better today as it happens. Will keep playing around and see if it gets better. Cheers for the info.

Umm...

today.. had mine on about 18c... it was blowing cold air.... went round a corner, started blowing hot air for about 10 seconds.. then went cold again :o

Yes I have exactly the same problem on my 16,000 mile 2004 Fabia car...However the Engine Management Light stuck on 2 months ago and my dealer had to re-set something, which they charged me

If your car is under warrenty then the motors will be covered, it is a know problem.

What tends to happen is that the dealers will 'reset' them with the VAS computer but this is often only a short term fix. They certainly shouldn't have charged for it.

If you can, get a VAG-COM scan done before visiting the dealer again.

Has anyone around Macclesfield, Ches, got the VAG-COM scan facilities to check ?....DB
