1.8t 4x4 fuel tank pressurising !!!!!!!!

Featured Replies

Hi all. I have a bit of a problem in that the petrol tank doesn't appear to be 'breathing' properly.Every time I open the filler cap i can hear air rushing in and on occasion petrol has actually been pushed out the filler cap.

I have disconnected the breather pipe in the engine bay [the small pipe between the expansion tank and power steering reservoir] and blown it through with an air-line.I can visibly see vapour coming out the filler when i do this so it would appear this pipe is not choked.

However, even with this pipe disconnected in the engine bay the pressure is not getting released through it. A bit baffling!!!

Hopefully some fellow Briskodian can shed some light on this problem.

Thanks in advance,

Dougie.

How low is the fuel in the tank?

The recent hot weather will play a part as you get low.

The N80 solenoid valve isnt working then and releasing the vapour into the engine.

It can be activated through final control diagnosis with VAG COM and may log a fault code.

Just to update, it turns out the mechanic who changed the timing belt managed to swap the breather for the return pipe and vise versa where they join at the charcoal cannister.

Thanks for all your help.

Ah, thanks for getting back to us with the fault, easily done.
