Alarm LED Doing Some Strange Things

Featured Replies

Evening all,

Noticing that occasionally, the alarm LED on the drivers door will remain constantly on after locking the car.

Then if i unlock it and relock it , the light will go out.

I've heard that when the LED remains on that this indicates that the alarm was activated, BUT my alarm has never been activated by anything other that me closing the boot sometimes after the car locks itself after 30s sometimes.

Have i a fault ??

Any advice will be appreciated..

There are reports of "strange" things going on with the alarm LED.

What has happened to me on two occasions now is:

Unlock car, alarm LED comes on and stays on.

Open door, get in, start engine.

LED still on.

Start driving, drive to work with the LED constantly on.

Get to work, lock vehicle, unlock vehicle and the LED is out as you would expect.

I've tested my alarm and it's working absolutely fine.

The issue I've had I've seen twice in the 8 months I've owned the car - so not exactly often.

Reason? No idea.

I have a vague idea there was an issue (ie fault) with the locking system on Golfs, and one of the tell tale symtoms was the locking LED illuminating when it shouldn't eg when you are driving along. Maybe a search would find out more info ?

Might be worth checking that your car is locked before you leave it anywhere ?

I'd get it checked, as that indicates a convienience fault which may mean deadlocks and/or alram not functional.

On the mk1 Octavia, it indicates a fault. I would get the controller scanned with VCDS, or by a dealer. Also, try checking for moisture or corrosion on the pins in the wiring loom connector in the drivers door. A shot of wd40 can help.

Thanks lads, for all your help, i'l ring the local Stealers and enquire about any possible faults.

I have maxidot, and when i purchased the car (exactly 1 year ago) the doors locking was arranged to only open the drivers door on one click, and all doors on two clicks of the fob.

Changed it through the maxidot and hadn't any problems, unitl i noticed this.

To : PdHealy You could be correct as i had a fair amount of the dash out a couple a weeks ago when i was putting in a multi-media interface. However i did notice this occurance prior to this. It is something i will investigate.

I presume in will be Monaghans, if so they will probably go the replacement route for loom & control unit (as they did on my Mk1). Expensive, unless you still are covered by warranty.

I can recommend a local member on here if you are outside warranty. He is not to far from you, and fixed a similar problem on his Mk 1 without replacing any parts. PM if you want his details.
