How much value will Octavia vRS lose when facelift arrives?

Featured Replies

Currently trying to decide between buying a two year old Octavia vRS (diesel) or a two year old Mondeo ST. From what I've read, the facelift Octavia vRS will be on sale at some point during the next 3-6 months. I'm guessing this will result in the value of the current Octavia vRS dropping. Does anyone have any idea by how much £ they're likely to lose once the facelift vRS is on sale?

Not sure they can lose much more tbh :( If your looking at 2 year old I wouldn't expect it to have any knock on effect whatsoever, and the hit between PD and CR will already have taken place.

If you was looking 0 to 6 months old then wait.

a 2.2ST tdci few years back and it was a fantastic drive, the handling was phenominal and so confidence inspiring. i loved it I believe they had some issues with suspension though so look into that. vRS will be quicker and has nicer interior but mondeo ST would undoubtably handle better and has the looks i think. very difficult choice there. skoda would have better residuals as well it guess

Yep...despite the Mondeo being more than £4k more expensive when new, it seems it's now £1.5/2k cheaper when compared to an Octavia of similar age and mileage. I'd like to stay with Skoda but the Ford is really tempting me.

The skoda will pass anything on the road bar a petrol station, the Ford won't even reach the next petrol station

i've driven a the mondeo ST and my passat has the same PD engine as the vRS TDi and my passat (bigger and heavier car) makes the mondeo feel positively sluggish so the vRS will be even better

that was the problem with the mondeo, the car was beutifully balanced to drive but underpowered. nothing a remap wouldnt sort though, but then a remaped vrs would p*ss ove that. So i guess its down to what you want out of the car

have to say that the ST is a great looking car, but i just think it will end up being a massive money sink

TBH depends how macho it looks.

If they tame it and girlyfy it's looks, it may not be popular so pre-facelift will be higher. Similar happened initially when the facelifted scooby came out

cant see that happening, If the facelifted octy is anything to go on, I think they have a more aggresive look than the pre-facelift

To answer the original question; there is unlikely to be any significant difference in value between current vRS and facelift vRS as it only a 'facelift' not a 'new model'; and then the difference in value will only be noticeable on a pre/post facelift '09 car.

As you are looking at an '07 vRS TDI I'd suggest no impact on value at all.:)

Mundano ST TDCi is very slow!

I've just remembered this back to back test from 2 years ago, well worth a read;- Read Family Cars Review | Compare Skoda Octavia vRS TDI v Ford Mondeo ST TDCi

Conclusion is;

Fast and frugal, the Skoda Octavia vRS TDI and Ford Mondeo ST TDCi make a lot of sense. Both look suitably sporting, and deliver strong performance – especially the Czech car. The Ford has the upper hand on comfort, refinement, handling and ride quality, while the Skoda leads the way for pace and price.

Ultimately, it’s those latter two factors that swing the verdict in this test. Both are fine all-rounders, but while the Octavia vRS’ 2.0-litre diesel is a bit rough and ready, we can’t overlook the fact the Skoda enjoys a £4,600 price advantage. However, it’s not all good news. These diesels may be sensible, but unless economy is your number one priority, neither car is as good to own and drive as its more rewarding, involving and faster petrol equivalent. ©AutoExpress

Ah yes, but the plot thickens. From the same magazine, written three months ago, they changed their mind...

"The Mondeo has a 230cc advantage in engine capacity, and this translates into more torque: 400Nm from 1,800rpm. The potent oil-burner also helps the Ford strike a great balance between performance and cruising refinement. So although it’s not quite as quick as the Skoda, it makes a better all-round proposition.

And that’s the key. The Ford is great to drive, more spacious and better value than its Czech rival, and so has to be our choice."
