Another Intermittent side light problem

Featured Replies

Hi, can anyone please please help,

Gotta problem, been ongoing for months,'06 Octy 1.9PD. Warning light on dash, MFD says "front left parking light defective". Seems to occur after rain or washing Collected it from main dealer today (for the umpteenth time) they said they'd replaced headlight unit, "E-unit", whatever that is, relay box and fuse box and put it through the car wash five times, driven it round, allowed it to dry, driven it round again and it was now OK (bulb replacement & contact cleaning done on earlier visits) but they couldn't say they'd found the cause.

Happily started homewards, and five miles or so from the dealers the effin warning light comes on again! Fortunately problem started whilst still in warranty, but it's driving me (and the dealer) potty, I've now spent days hanging around the agent's (it's a half hour drive) so if anyone can suggest anything it would be really appreciated.

I have had this and found it to be nothing more than a poor bulb contact (wedge fitting) causing the bulb to wobble about when going over bumps etc. The bulb fitting was eventually replaced by the dealer but the new one was just as bad!!

The definitive cure is to tweak the bulb fitting so that it grabs the bulb more tightly!

Also assuming that you have the standard bulbs in and not leds or anything like that which can upset the bulb failure system........

Have you checked the main connection plug onto the back of the headlight unit? Its pretty exposed and will get wet when raining/washing/car wash. Might be worth checking it for any signs of corrosion on the contacts.

I am fighting with the same problem - my right front sidelight keeps triggering the warning on the dash, but then a few miles later the warning light will go out and the light will start working. Clearly the bulb isn't blown, but it's driving me bonkers! Another thing that they'll be looking at when the car's serviced soon (along with the aircon that isn't cold...)
