1.6i Lumpy tickover,BFQ engine.

Featured Replies

Hi folks, just wondering if a slightly lumpy tickover is usual on these engines(1.6 SR),my dad's just bought a '52 Classic, very happy with it,but has a slightly lumpy tickover, not as bad as a misfire, but i think it should be a bit smoother, Just put a new set of genuine plugs in,and a new air filter. Worth doing ht leads,or is this normal for this engine? 55k on clock,so not done massive mileage. Any advice/suggestions greatly appreciated, thanks guys. Paul.

Hi

Not sure what you mean by "lumpy", but i've recently bought a 1.6 classic, 03 plate on 31k miles, BFQ motor too, and mine isn't as smooth on tickover as expected. sometimes drops and rises by about 100rpm.

Usually ticks over at 750rpm.

It came with a 12 month warranty from independant dealer, but not sure if i can handle not having a car for X amount of days while they look into it, and as you say, if its normal...?

Mine isn't spot on - although I have put it in for a service soon. Could be worth cleaning the throttle body perhaps?

Thanks guys, nice to know its not just this one thats doing it! Will give the throttle body a clean, see if that improves it. Cheers,Paul.

Hi everyone first time posting on here but I have used the site for so much advice,

I own an octavia 1.6 bfg engine (silverline edition) and have had the same problem eversince i brought it (22k on the clock) and it got worse if you held the reves at about 1200rpm (currently 55k) I have serviced the car every 10,000 miles.

So i took it into my local garage had about 700 quid spent on new sparks leads coil pack throttal body cleaned fuel filter change timing belt Re-changed and timing slightly corrected.

This however did nothing LOL!

So dont worry about it.

Yeah mine still does this - was blipping the throttle in traffic to try and see if it evens out! :wonder: Oddly enough sometimes it does it and others it doesn't! Mine is just over 74K

when mine developed a slightly erratic idle i gave a quick going over with a rag and some carb cleaner

i did'nt even remove the TB i just took off the hose and gave it a good cleaning

lovely smooth tick over ever since

and it only took ten minutes

Cool - will have to give a go
