clicking sound when turning

Featured Replies

When I turn right on a roundabout or any right hand bend, I get a clicking sound just like a lolly stick in a bike wheel when pushed slowly ,could it be a CV joint on the way out???

It has just passed an mot with it

Is the sound most noticeable when the window is wound down?

Check the car at low speed on full lock left/right and in reverse to see what sort of noises you are getting. Also check behind the wheel to make sure nothing is touching the wheel when turning. If its a metallic clicking/grinding noise then you coud be looking at a CV joint on its last legs :thumbdwn:

If it is how much would it cost to replace, SHMBO got one for my old superb for £45 from an indipendant and it cost £25 to fit would costs be simular

I would think it would be comparable to that. The CV on the Octavia isn't going to be that different to the Superb in terms of replacing.

Would I be correct in saying there is inner and outer ones on both sides, if thats the case how can you tell what ones gone ???

Its usually the outer CV that goes more often, it has to be able to transmit power when the wheel is turned.

An inner CV usually clunks and knocks on power takeup, an outer CV will grind and click when worn out.

Check all of the rubber CV boots to see if any have split and dumped thier grease packing.

If you can verify the clicking noises you would be best off getting down to your friendly indy and let them verify it.

Test it out on full lock in both directions forwards and reverse, an empty car park is best. Maybe a passenger can help narrow it down to one side.
