Greetings Fellow Skoda Owners

Featured Replies

Hi Folks,

Newbie here.........

Rebelling against my wife's brand snobbery I purchased a rather tasty 2007/56 Octavia 2.0 T-FSI Estate in Race Blue just last Sunday. It's done a piffling 37k miles and has been thoughfully specced with 18" wheels, Xenon Headlights and the Leccy Rear Windows/Armrest/Cruise pack thing. So three days in what do I think..............

Well having had a reasonably long list of cars from various marques (mostly German) I have to say I am pretty impressed. Between my wife and I we have had 2 Merc's (CLK and SLK) a BMW 3-series an Audi A3 a SEAT Toledo and driven a few Passat's and Golf's.

The Skoda seems extremely well built (easily a match for the VW, SEAT and BMW) and much better than the Merc's. You can see where Skoda have saved money allowing them to sell at such reasonable prices e.g. no gas strut on the bonnet, flimsy glove-box lid, chepish lower dash plastics, not much sound-insulation material etc etc. But the bits that count are all top-notch VAG - i.e. the amazing engine.

I was staggered by how quickly a relatively large and fairly heavy car picked up pace and I've driven some fairly fast cars in the past. Coupled with the practicality I can see this car staying around for a while yet. Even my wife had to admit (through gritted teeth) that it is actually a rather good car. So with about 9 months left to go on the warranty, time will tell if this has been a good purchase.......

Looking forward to chatting to you all,

Best regards, Jon

P.S. Has anyone had any sucess with DIY sound-proofing material ? It's a bit boomy in the back so think that might be the first tweak !

Hello and Welcome to Briskoda :D

There's a lot of talk on here re tyres to reduce road noise... never seen anything else re sound proofing... saying that, I haven't looked so there may well be. Welcome aboard! :)
