Intermitent revs

Featured Replies

Hi all not been on for a while:).I have an intermittent fault which I'm guessing is a sensor but I'm not sure which one:confused:.When i first start her from cold the revs can be very erratic and when driving if i put the foot down sometimes get a few seconds of nothing then drives normally:eek:.as soon as she is warm all is fine.As I said this seems to be intermittent . any advice would be gratefully received. thanks all in advance:thumbup:

I'm guessing it could be the temperature sensor since you mention all is OK when warm.

Some people get "papershop syndrome" with the 1.3 MPI engine when its warm.

Theres also the crank sensor.

I'm a bit of a n00b on the 1.3 myself!!

thanks but its defo not the temp sensor as that was recently changed as i had to buy a new thermostat, could be the crank sensor as when my starter packed in it chewed the fly wheel up a bit and there was plenty of metal stuck too it.

Can you take the "big black box" located over the air inlet with the butterfly valve, and checked if this valve is clean...

I had same kind of problems. Just cleaned the edge of the valve, as well as the cylinder itself, and the car got responsive again.

As well, if your engine sounds tappety/tractory, it might be good to reset the valve clearances.

It's when the engine's still cold you get papershop syndrome :)

I would say that Captain Sisko is right, it is when the engine is warm, that you can't turn on the engine again, and get the "papershop syndrome" effect... :P

:thumbdwn: Rubbish, the term comes from just popping up the road for a newspaper, the engine would still be cold

I ve already had papershop syndrome and it was when engine was still cold. All that sides fixed.the part you have said to clean is that the carb

I own an injection model, but it looks like the air inlet of a carb...

And for the warn, not warn thing, the engine starts when stone cold, not anymore after being started once... So, warm, even a little... At least, for the sensor it is!

Seems to be fixed now.I took the entire air system to bits and cleened, bought new platinum plugs and air filter .I also took the crank sensor out (which was covered in crud from when the starter chewed up the fly wheel) gave it a good clean and all now seems spot on.Thanks to all for the help
