Petrol smell

Featured Replies

Noticed a smell of petrol in the cabin for the last two days since I replaced my spark plugs. Could the two be related?

Like the saying goes, do bears sh!t in the woods.

Sorry,

Is it running fine?

Seems to be running fine. Quieter than it was with the old plugs, in fact. The smell is only noticeable when idling at traffic lights etc. I'm a bit of a novice with these things... what could I have done wrong when changing the plugs? Have I caused some kind of damage?

did you set the gap between the electrode and the prong? Or are they iridium plugs where this isnt needed

They're Bosch Super 4s. Electrode gap pre-adjusted.

I wouldn't worry too much, just give them a nip up

Is it petrol or fumes you can smell?

Not sure to be honest. Could be fumes.

TBH I would check out the air filter housing to ensure it is seated correctly.

That or a breather hose adrift.

Seems to have sorted it. Cheers.
