Can you change settings, program keys etc with a VAG5053?

I'll probably be denounced as a heretic for not wanting to just get a VAG-COM cable, but as I don't have a laptop I could easily use for VAG-COM, I'd prefer to get a scan tool that doesn't break the bank if it'll do what I'd like it to, and the VAG5053 (Memoscan.cn) seems like a reasonable device.

From a brief read of the not especially helpful manual (www.digimotor.com/pdf/vag5053.pdf), it looks like it should be able to manipulate the settings in the same way as VAG-COM can (but without the friendly interface, support and all that).

Has anyone who has one of these tools used it to change settings like anti-hijack, or to code keys?
