Insurance

I am presently trying to get a quote for a Octy vrs cr diesel with my current insurance company, Norwich Union. They keep insisting that the premium is more than my present petrol Octy vrs. How can this be, when it clearly states on the brochure that the Petrol VRS is 15E. Whilst the diesel is a group lower at 14E!!

I have called twice now and tried to explain to these muppets, but they wont have it. I think they make things up as they go along to screw some more money out of you when you re insure. The last guy told me that they were both the same group, whilst the idiot before said the diesel was a HIGHER group.

It's a long way to Mumbai, and it's impossible to communicate with these guys

Could it be that the diesel one is more expensive to replace than your current car? Due to age or initial cost

Very true - the insurance group codes are only for comparing like-for-like, so likely risk of accident, cost of repair etc, which drive the insurance grouping, will be offset against the age/replacement value of your new car compared with the previous one.

In addition it may be that NU just think they've got you hooked and are being cheeky, or at least uncompetitive. I'd been with Cornhill Direct for years with my old Octy (they were the best quote at the time I started with them), but they'd kept on hiking the premium for no apparent reason. When I got my new VRS I shopped around and Cornhill were way dearer than others.

Just shop around!

Just shop around!

I aggree. I was with Norwich union for years and decided this year to shop around. I got like for like cover with more-than and saved £190.00!!!.

I fee sorry for the call centres in "warmer climates", they are doing the best they can with limited british motor knowledge but this economy is not passed on the customer!!

As above, you just need to shop around. I've never renewed with the same insurer twice. My CR vRS was however cheaper to insure than my TFSI vRS when I swapped.
