hi, i recently started getting a faint knocking tapping noise whilest in 5th, but now in other gears. i had a lad from a vw garage have a listen and he said it was the dual mass fly wheel???

is this a common problem, and are they expensive?

The dual mass fly wheel would sound like that. I test drove a leon that need it changing sounded like someone was hitting it with hammer. That particular car did it in all gears though. I'm no expert but I would have thought if the flywheel needed changing it would make noise in all gears.

well it has started doin it in other gears now.. just when i first heard it could only hear it in 5th. im gussing this is going to cost me ha!!

Im not sure on the cost of a replacment DMF but if your planning to modify your car in the future now would be a good time to upgrade to a SMF and decent clutch
