Any 1.9 TDI PD owners?

Featured Replies

yup, especially if i wanted to get anywhere other than dawdling along

CR140, pulls in just about any gear and nice 6 speed box

I to am worried about the 1.9 105 being under power as at the mo I have a 140 Octavia and am not sure what engine to go for as when ever it will be driven it will have at least 3 people in it and dont want to be knocking it down a gear all the time

Would you now you have it wish you went for the 2.0 140?

Your used to a 140 so I would stick with the same, smoother & quieter than the 105, I have to take 5 adults and a full boot on a long trip about 4 times a year and was a bind in the Octavia 105, no such problem in the superb with 140 and do not get knees in my back now

I wouldn't worry too much about the power you will get used to less torque, i once went from 185BHP in a volvo V70 D5 :D to 95BHP in a mazda 626 DTi  after a few weeks it will feel fine. Appart from that you will save money on fuel :)

I ordered a 1.4TSi to upgrade from my 2.0 140 TDI Octavia estate. We figured we didn't need diesel economy (short runs mostly) and the 1.4 suited us and our budget.

However, that wasn't going to arrive in time. I test drove a 1.4TSI Octavia, as I was concerned the 1.4 would struggle, but it was ok. I also tested a 2.0 140 TDI DSG Superb to check out how the Superb drove compared to my Octavia - great but I wouldn't need the DSG (nice to have...).

We ended up with a 105 TDI Greenline and have been more than happy (less for the stereo - see my other thread). Mega economy (55+mpg) and usable performance. I think it helps that it isn't much heavier than my Octavia was and in the Greenline at least, has different gearing (5spd is a bit less funky than 6 though). You adjust your style quickly.

My Superb regularly gives 54-55mpg (actual), however, yesterday evening the MFD showed 70.2mpg for the 45 mile motorway commute back home. Admittedly I was cuising at around 60mph.

I'd be interested to know the kind of economy you are getting on a full tank of fuel. I regularly achieve 700+ miles to a full tank, however, the Greenline should be slightly more economical.

For the record, my car is reasonably well run-in, having covered 22,000 miles. I've also observed far lower oil consumption than in my similiarly engined Octy II which I also drove from new.
