1.4 tsi remap

Featured Replies

hi does anyone know if the new 122 bhp 1.4tsi is remappable and if a reliable company is offering this yet. I couldn't find anything when I looked recently

Thanks

Most modern engines are remappable (in that they are usually controlled by an ECU) so it's just a question of whether a map has been developed by any of the remappers.

I can't remember whether this engine has just the supercharger or just the turbo charger but I don't think it has both like the 170ps variant. Either way, it serves as a good basis for a remap and I'd anticipate around 150 - 160 ps from a stage 1.

The TSI 122 is turbo only. Makes it easier to remap I would think.

Once the tuning bods have deveolped and tested the new map(s) they will no doubt be made available. 150PS would be a nice round and fairly safe figure I would think. Not sure about torque levels though.

Yep, turbo only on this variant.

Will only be a matter of time for remaps, but the usual suspects will have to test out various configurations. I'd be fairly sure they were already on the case though

Or go the full hog and fit a Nitrous Oxide system to your car!

Just make sure you have enough to cash left to buy a new engine now and then.... On the news some guy this week got near 300 bhp out of his Saxo, think just what we could all get out of the Skoda's.

James.

Thats the same as getting 300bhp out of a tin baking tray. It might be fast but I wouldn't want to take it for a ride

That story was on the BBC website here: BBC - Newsbeat - Modified cars 'could put lives at risk' It was an MR2 with Nitrous

I'm sure I read that REVO can remap the 1.4 TSI, but I think it's the Turbo & Super charged engines.

Still a yobs car! I think saw it on BBC breakfast and I am sure they had a red saxo with a guy plus the AA man telling you how bad it was etc.

There is. Some of the tuners here in Finland already offer the remap for this one turbo engine. The output is 160bhp and 275 Nm of torque after remap.

The older models require a chip tuning and newer ones with Bosch Med17.x are OBD tunable.

I know this doesn't help you to locate a remapping company in your area.

Good to see Revo offer something for this engine, but they're quoting 140bhp for it in standard form. Dare I say, 'here we go again?' :)

cheers wardy. I don't know what do you mean by "here we go again" though?

Thanks

Said, slightly tongue in cheek, about their quoted power figures for the engine in standard tune. Their maybe a history of this, but I'm saying nothing, OK? ;)

So I'm inferring the following:

Revo's remapped figures of say 155-160 bhp are dependent on the remap adding 15-18 bhp to a possibly optimistic "standard" 140 bhp (compared to manufacturer's figures of 122). Assuming the car Revo used as an example is untypical and 122 is closer to what most 1.4 TSI's actually have, then their remap might result in an increase to about 135-140 bhp

What you've said sounds very sensible, yes

Surely by the time you've factored in the extra insurance costs of declaring a remap along with the fact your warranty is void (if it is found by thedealer), are you not as well getting a 1.8?

Steve

That's a question for another thread I think :)

i think you're right Steve, particularly if you want a manual. Unfortunately the issue for me, and i think for several potential 1.4tsi buyers is that they'd like a 1.8 dsg, but don't want to stretch to the L&K which bizarrely Skoda have made the only option in the UK. A remapped 1.4tsi DSG Elegance would seem to be the way round it though the warranty issue is obviously very significant

It is quite interesting to compare the 1.4 TSI with the 1.8 TSI, the following apply to the DSG form :-

0 - 62mph ........................ 9.7secs ...................................... 7.8secs

Max. speed.......................125 ...............................................138

Max BHP...........................122/5000.....................................160/4500 - 6200

Max torque........................ 200Nm/ 1500 - 4000.................. 250Nm/1500 - 4500

Combined mpg.................44.8...............................................42.8

CO2 emissions.................147...............................................155

The 1.8 has the obvious performance gain but without any significant loss in mpg or emissions. Perhaps another consideration is that the 'dry' 7 speed DSG is perceived to have a maximum bhp tolerance of 170, which means less stress when paired with the 1.4 unit.

Also the 1.4TSi DSG Elegance hatch has a OTR price of £15850 and in 1.8 form it would be £17270 (estimated) - would it be worth the extra £1420 ?

Especially with a DSG box! I would have thought a remap would give Skoda an easy way to wiggle out of any DSG box warranty claims.

As discused elsewhere, the 1.4 T is remarkably perky and the real life performance advantages of the 1.8 T are arguably not so great as to be worth an approximately extra £1500 in manual form.

If DSG is a must: the 1.8T DSG L&K is about £4300 more

Following Helix's assessment of the still very rare 1.4 TSI DSG Octavia together with my assessment of the same engine & transmission in the Mk6 Golf, I cannot see any 'real world' reason to choose the 1.8TSI DSG over the 1.4 unit - so perhaps Skoda UK did know what they were doing with the former only being available in the L & K.?? I believe that the 'dry' 7 speed DSG is really best suited to the 122bhp 1.4 rather than the 160 bhp 1.8, especially since it has a maximum tolerance of approx. 170 bhp.

Hey, you have to remember that the DSG transmission is not compatible with more than 250Nm, the 1.4 will tell you a little thin, but not 1,8 TSI, which already have 250Nm.

So what about the vRS TDI DSG with 350NM torque?
