Tickover wanders

Featured Replies

Just noticed that when warmed up, the tickover on my vRS wanders slightly. It's only a little maybe +/-100 rpm at the very most but if you watch the rev counter it moves up and down very slightly and I can feelthe engine changing speed (it's also not totally smooth).

In previous vag cars I have owned the tickover has always been rock solid. Is the vRS different?

Cheers,

It may need a throttle body clean.

Although mine is the same even with a gleaming TB, as long as its not up and down like a whore's drawers then I wouldn't worry too much.

Yeah, I guess it probably does need a bit of a clean. How easy is it to get to the TB and does it need to be removed to give it a clean?

I'll put it on the list of things to do at the next service.

My tickover is smoother with vpower. It does the odd blip on cheap fuel.

You can hear mine wandering slightly but not enough to actually deflect the needle unless you stare it it from really close up :) When it was plugged into a VAG diagnostic box it was showing +/- 20 or so rpm and that was enough to make an audible difference.
