If nothing else the weight differences between the two (vRS has heavier engine) will cause it to potentially sit funny, plus I imagine handling would be. . . different.

simple answer is DON'T DO IT.

Go out and buy him a set of 1.2 specific eibach lowering springs. This would give better than vRS handling, a better drop in height, and much safer than using diesel specific suspension.

Shocks would be OK if they are in good nick.

I ran my old TDI on eibach pro-kit springs on oem dampers. No problems at all. Now that I know springs are better matched to dampers from the same company, I don't think I would do the same again, but there is nothing wrong with it. When I rescued the eibach springs off my wrecked mk1, I put them straight on to mk2, but on eibach dampers as well which were around £250 (£150 for the springs alone usually)
