Changing Radiator Grill on 58 elegance

Featured Replies

Hi - I had a contretemps yesterday with a pigeon which has taken out a few bars of the plastic radiator grill on my 58plate elegance (the grill including the skoda badge). Has any one any experience of changing this - it looks to be retained by one way plastic clips which I probably will have to break to remove the grill before fitting a new one to be ordered tomorrow.

Fortunately no other damage.

No, it's not difficult to get off, just take your time. Once you've unclipped it, there's a double sided spongy tape around it randomly as well though (helps keep on the chrome bit) so make sure you use a stanley knife to carefully slice through this: just trying to peel it away may well put tiny cracks in the edge of the chrome surround.... I know! When reattaching the new stuff, just get a roll of similar tape and refit. Despite lots of people having trouble finding an equivalent, 3m DEFINITELY make some cos that's what I used! (If it's from the dealer though it might have it on there already: either that or the chrome bit has to have it fitted, I just don't know which side does?)

Might be worth thinking about getting a complete grill from ebay: it'll be cheaper than the dealer and you can always either colour code the grill for yourself and have the original as a chrome spare for if you want to return it to original, or sell your original slat-busted complete grill on ebay to someone who wants one to colour code and get some of the cost of replacing the grill bit back. That way, you only have to do a straight swap over for the complete new one and it'll be super quick: job done!

Ah, just re-read your post... the chrome bit is knacked as well isn't it?! :rotz:
