What should be in the OEM spare wheel well tool set?

Featured Replies

I've had my car for a year and a half now and apart from the precursory examination of the spare wheel from time to time, I had paid the tool set in the boot no attention, apart to make sure a jack is there. I usually use air tools and trolley jack, so have has no need to use any of the tools supplied....or supposedly supplied.

All I have is the jack and the wheel wrench. Should there be more? There are a lot of empty spaces in the polysterene.......just in case I need something when in the back of beyond that isn't there!

Cheers

I've got a screwdriver in mine as well, no idea what else is supposed to in there

Oh aye, the ever present VAG screwdriver in the wrench! I remember that from my first 1977 Polo! Think the design of the jack is till the same too......

the vehicle jack thats supplied is proper terrible i had to buy a trolley jack in the end :thumbdwn:

should also have a locking wheel nut and a wheel nut cap puller I think thats all I have with the aforementioned tools

I'm pretty sure that mine is a full and original set, and everything perfectly fits the recesses into which they are placed :-

Jack

Wheel brace

Locking wheel nut tool

Plastic wheel nut cover removal "tweezers"

Stainless steel wire "hook" - presumably for removing wheel covers on steel wheels if fitted.

Open ended 10mm / 13mm spanner (marked Heyco)

Plastic Screwdriver handle, with reversible flat / cross point bit - handle also has a 17mm socket recess moulded into other end (which is useful for spinning off loosened wheel nuts)

Same as BJM.

The wire thing is for pulling off the plastic centre cap that covers the hub (although you have to peel the Skoda badge off to get to the holes to put the wire thing into).

I also had a spanner in mine, I can't remember the sizes off the top of my head but I know the smaller end fits the nuts on the battery terminals

same as above for me, plus the strap to hold it all down, but thats not reall;y a tool lol

Really?

Seems a bit OTT to me - I just push them out from the inside when the wheel is off.

Oh, and I forgot the retaining strap as well :)

Fresh air in my boot. :o

I think they can also be used to remove the large centre cover on models with alloys that have a centre cover over the wheel bolts, my sisters Mk1 Seat Leon has wheels like that and the covers have two little holes that the wire tool hooks into to pull the cover out.

I've also got the removable towing eye in mine, but no screwdriver or spanner.

I have all of these things :)

and there is a hole in there just the right size for your locking wheel nut adaptor

I've also got the removable towing eye in mine, but...

So thats where my towing eye went;). Seriously though, I believe the guys that serviced my car, did the MOT and bent the sill flange over also helped themselves to the towing eye:mad:. It was there, and I've never taken it out! All the other bits are still there though.

I'm pretty sure my towing eyes are welded onto the car. The back one definitely is, and I've got a feeling the front one is too (behind one of outside black plastic grills). And so I don't think I've got a removable one in the tool kit. I might be going mad though...

I know Mk IV Golfs have got a removable one, at the front at least.

Well all I have is the jack and the wheel nut adaptor! Just the spare unused alloy (with the holding screw thing but no tool holder inside the wheel), and the empty grey foam holder thing at the back. Nothing else!

Doesn't really bother me, as I've put my own tools etc in the foam holder thingy now. I guess that tool holder thing that sits in the wheel would help to reinforce the fibreboard though.

What's the removable towing eye for?! Both the towing eyes on my car are fixed!

My spare is a 16" steel wheel.
