MDF2 is this a good price

Featured Replies

Well, it takes about 5 minutes to fit an MFD2 Skip, so the labour charge is a bit high :) the price of the unit without labour is good though if they would sell you one.

The other thing is the trim is not £15 - £25 it is around £3 - £5 iirc. On the whole I would say "not really"

Hope this helps (PS my MFD2 sold here for £250)

Wait for a cheap one to appear on ebay, fit it yourself (4 torx screws and the quadlock loom connector + antenna) and order the proper trim from a dealer.

You'll also need to tie up with someone who uses VCDS so your car can be recoded for the navigation unit. It will probably work without the coding but its best to do it properly :)

And yes, the trim is something in the region of a fiver IIRC.

What trim would you need if the unit is the same shape as the stream.

Where do you get the trim if required

It's not the same shape as a stream though (the MFD2)

I think the price isn't too bad really, but I would spend the extra 300 - 350 and get a Columbus - it's so much nicer.

I am thinking of getting one and a free view box to watch TV and listen to digital radio, as I have tried it out up here and it works well on the taxi rank where do you get the combined radio TV aerials from, so I can utilize the existing radio one

The shekels are a bit tight at the moment:O

If you want to watch tv or whatever you would also need one of these: AV adaptor

It allows any audio/video source to connect to the MFD2 unit, you watch the source via the AUX mode.

Do you need an external DVD player to watch them or can you use the DVD drive on the MFD2?

The Skoda MFD2 is CD only, the later VW units were DVD but IIRC they only play the map DVDs. The RNS-510 unit will play movie DVDs straight out of the box.

Any video input whether DVD/DTV/games console needs to be piped through an adaptor first.

I have a VW DVD version.

So if I wanted to watch a DVD, I would need an external player & the adapter??

Yes, you would need an external source and an A/V adaptor that plugs into the rectangular multipin connector near the GPS antenna socket (IIRC).

I had one of those adaptors from ebay with my ipod connected to it, then I could watch movies and TV shows from the ipod as well as all of the music.

Nice one!

I currently have a Dension Gateway 100 for my iPod, but may change it for the AV adapter.

I used this lead: Apple Composite AV Cable - Apple Store (U.K.)

With the three plugs into the adaptor (via a short exension cable) I got stereo sound and video, obviously the MFD2 knocks the picture out when on the move but the audio still worked fine with the navigation map on the screen. There is also an adaptor available to bypass this if need be.

The Composite lead also has a usb plug so the ipod was always on charge

I also had to fit a new noise suppressors on the AV adaptor box and the ipod charger power supply due to ground loop interference, mainly from the bloody xenons

Make sure its a composite AV cable and NOT component as apple sell both and the latter won't work properly ;)

Aplogies if i'm teaching granny to suck eggs with any of this :o

No apologies needed! I'm all new to this! :D

No problem
