Superb in AutoExpress Driver Power Survey

It is a re-post. The other one is busy castigating the Jag after I stuck up for it.

I'd have most definately had a Mk1 IF it had ever been available as a hatchback or estate.

I really couldn't cope with a booted car though, as I need big access for some of the gear I have to carry in my job.

A fine car and much better looking than the new model....imo. ;)

The funny thing is that the car that beat it, the Jaguar XF, is one of the few cars I would consider as an alternative to my Superb. The XF was not out when I bought my Superb. I did look at an S-type but rejected it because of its bucolic styling and the total absence of a boot. The fact that it was double the price did not help either, of course.

The Jag an ugly son of a munter anyway, once again imo of course.

You did right. The Superb is...well superb I suppose.

Damn them for never doing a hatchback/estate. :thumbdwn:

Yep

:D

Not when it's half full of rain water.

Shame on you, VAG for re-badging (bodging?) the Passat with the same serious and costly fault. A recall is the least they could have done as they obviously knew all about it before the Superb was screwdrivered by Skoda.

rotodiesel.

 But mine doesn't leak Roto ................ and I replied to the survey!!!

'Thinks .................... maybe I was the only Superb owner who did' (out of 21,000+ replies)?!! No. 2 spot based on a sample of one?

If you'd been the only one to reply Roto, I guess it would have come about 90th ..... and, if we'd both replied, it would have been about mid-table ;)

Is this the same blocking pollen filter problem that the Passat had/has?

The very one.

Blocked plenum drains, self-disintegrating pollen filter holder seal and pathetic detail design cause the problem. I suspect it's more specific to RHD cars - probably why VAG couldn't be bothered to correct this defect when they decided to badge the Passat as a Superb. Putting a big chunk of electronics on the floor just takes the biscuit - gravity is very reliable.

The sheer deceit involved means that this will be my last VAG car - pity because the diesel engines are good. Fortunately, the opposition in Japan have caught up now.

Thank god for the Japanese.........

Wouldn't have looked right, the car was originally designed for Czech ministers and dignitries to run around in, there's an article somewhere that the PM asked VW to do this to a Golf or Jetta iirc, but the idea was subbed for what is now a stretched Passat, which was already availabe in China as a Passat, besides in time it will be appreciated as a classic shape and a case of the pupil getting the better of the master, I get B5 drivers giving me a look envy all the time because mine is better fitted out and looks a bracket above theirs.
