Reverse sensor driving me nuts...

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm the proud owner of an immaculate 2002 Octavia 1.9tdi L+K.

Up till now she's been a dream come true. Fair to say, that it's the sweetest car that I've ever had... until now...!

Returning from the supermarket, with my 10 week old daughter happily asleep in her seat in the back, I went to reverse into my drive and the reverse parking sensor went ape****!

Ergo, my little one went ape**** too!:mad::eek:

It beeps now 2-3 times a second as if I was just about to hit something, when there's nothing there.

The nearest I can figure is that someone bumped the car while she was parked at the shops.

:holmes:

Any of you gang come across this before?

Is it a common complaint?

Is there a way to adjust the sensors or even to isolate the gimpy one?

Will my little one ever be able to sleep in the car again while her Dad reverses?!!!:orb_sleep

Any help would be much appreciated...

Thanks...

:o

ps. I note from other posts that water is sometimes a factor... It has been raining pretty hard... could it be that simple???

when you select reverse the graphics on the radio screen show which of the four sensors is 'close' to an object, are all four showing or just one? Is there any signs of damage or is there something stuck to a sensor?

Thanks for the speedy reply Moley...

I don't have a graphics function to show the sensors on the radio or other screen!

She's a 2002 model, perhaps this was on a later model(?)

There's no sign of damage and there's nothing stuck to any of the sensors. My first attempt to remedy this was to clean them...

(thanks)

Moved to the more appropriate octy1 forum.

Sounds like one has popped out of it's holder, and is flapping around behind the bumper.

I assume they're all clean?

Thanks gadgetman...

Indeed, all are clean and look perfectly normal.

Will climb under and have a look under the bumper tomo... or do ye access these from the boot?

(apologies for the multitude of Q's) :o

ps. apologies if this was posted in the wrong section... I be a newbie here...

edited to include the "ps."

Rain can effect these. If water is covering them, they tend to think you are very close to something and so give the quick warning beeps, mine have gone continous a number of times. This stops when the water is removed. If they are still suspect, get someone to stand near the bumper and whilst you or someone has engaged reverse gear with ignition on, slowly place hand near each sensor in turn. If you get the beeping and then speeding up as hand get closer all is ok. I found one sensor playing up when i did this and was able to isolate it without replacing all sensors. I then unplugged that one so I was not being deafened and replaced it when i had a new one.
