Changing to a more economical car - Fiat Bravo or something else?

Featured Replies

Thursday evening , so I'll stick a mini review up by the weekend.

They wanted to get it in this month's sales figures so it was handy that I had enough money in my savings to be able to pay for it then I can sort out a new loan and pay off the last bit of the loan for the octy.

There are some things I know I'll miss but a new car is always fun :)

the blue & me is fantastic, I've got the "black box style" eco driving set up on mine, and a nice 8 gig memory stick in the USB with my music on, best part is the voice control, and the fact your phone never has to come out of your pocket ;) look forward to the review.....

mine has now done 75k in two years,(mapped by Angel at 4k) all is well, its just gone out of warrenty, and suprisingly I'm not scared! lol....

Can you just pair a single phone to the Blue & Me or more than one?

I've just bought an iPod so I'll be using that for my music , but I'll also keep a couple of USB sticks full of tunes that I can leave in the car without worrying.

I'm looking forward to getting it.

They now do a 2.0 Multijet.

165 bhp and it's more economical than the old 1.9

There's one on the trader, thought it was a misprint as when I was looking at them the 150 was the highest power one they did.

I like the Bravo as it is a muc better looking car than the (to me) dowdy looking C'eed. I would go for the 120bhp 1.6 over the 105 bhp in the eco car though. Much quicker and not much in it fuel wise. Check out FiatSuperSaver.com - Why Pay Dealer Prices? Brand New Fiats- Huge Discounts for great offers on FIATS.

Sorry Alex, I see that you have bought a car, hope you enjoy it. I would consider the Bravo in 1.6 120 Mulitjet form though and there are some good prices on this site.

I have always liked FIATs and I think their reliability has improved but don't know how well they hold their value.

The Fiat SuperSaver price for the one I bought was £12,695.00 for a standard car.

I got one with a sunroof (£900 option) and Lenticular paint (£405 option) for £12.5k :D

Depreciation isn't brilliant , but then neither was my Octavia - nearly all cars are being hammered.

Is yours the 105 or 120 Alex? Do they do an Eco with the more powerful lump now? £12695 for the top of the range 165BHP Multijet Sport sounds like a cracking deal on that site. I may just be interested myself later:)

105 which is the only one you can get as an eco.

You can also get a non-eco 105 which seems a bit pointless - same 0-60 but 5mpg less and £120 tax instead of £35.

If there had been a 120 eco I'd have gone for that , but the 105 will do me and there's always the option of a remap......

mine will only pair one phone (but there may be software updates in the two years since mine was made! I downloaded the eco drive stuff on a memory stick, and simply plugged it in the USB and the system updated itself!) but pairing a new phone is very easy, if two people were using the car, to switch between both would just be a simple matter of a few voice commands.... the phonebooks are downloded via bluetooth, you will probably have the text message reader, which I don't have yet, need to download the latest update forthat...I've used ericcson and nokia with no issues. iPods will connect and work, which is suprising seeing as blue& me is made by microsoft.... :D

once you have your phone connected, I dare you to say "update" the car hijacks you phone, uses it to conect to fiat on the net, and check for software updates on their systems, then downloads and installs them!

look forward to the review

lol... expect gremlins ;) I once had a pupil out on a driving test, and the media system turned itself on and started playing the macc lads to the examiner :D thats the story anyway... I think he may have hit a switch on the steering wheel personally

Alex

If you start having blue & me issues, check out the fiat forums , or nf500.com, I goto the nf500 site ( I wonder why :) ). These will usually give you some good ideas.

As stated, bluetooth to this system is very easy, & provided you have bluetooth on, the car will pick up the phone very easily.

The USB music will automatically kick in, which is brilliant.

Eco drive is useful.

I've been registered on FF for a while now. It seems ok but not as good a community as Briskoda :)

its not... I don't like alot of the attitude over there, I rarely post, just go for any info I may need... much much better community here, which is why I'm still hanging around  besides, when our lass passes her test, i'm in the market for a mark I octy 1.8T 4x4 :D

Agree with both of you, i only ever vist the ' other ' sites if am after info.

Alex, you will probably be pleased / or not, that Chrysler will be selling the Bravo in the USA,(its the replacement for the Neon) alongside the 500 :)

Dont forget to let us know what you thing of the car after you've had it a few weeks.

Coo , didn't know it was going to the colonies....

That will be interesting to see how it sells over there.

A review will follow in due course once I've run it in a bit.

First impressions are very good.

It's nice to drive, looks great and is very economical - it's not run in at all and I got 58.5mpg on the way to work. Yesterday I got 52 for the same journey in my Skoda , so once it's got a few thousand miles on the clock I'm hoping to be at the quoted figure of 63mpg.

It's a bit smaller than the Octy and there's a few bits that seem a little cheaper in construction but nothing that's likely to spoil my enjoyment and there's things this has that are an improvement - huge sunroof for one.

mine didn't really run in until about 9,000 miles (driven normally, not 'baby'd' at all) only then did it start to yield decent fuel economy , look forward to more updates

I've done a couple more journeys in it now and reckon it's 10% up on my octavia now so if I can get another 10% improvement once it's run in I'll be happy.

The PD140 certainly improved by that much in the first 5-10k if not more so I'm confident I should be able to average over 60mpg as they claim. That'll save me at least £500 a year at current fuel prices and my normal mileage :)

It's also a very smooth and quiet car to drive.

There's less wind noise and the engine is much quieter too , plus it rides really well.

It may all go to **** when bits start falling off but on first impressions I'd much rather spend £12.5k on one of these than a new Skoda for the same money.

Here's a couple of pics as the sun has been shining today.

That looks great , I hope it serves you well!

Hopefully mine will be the same. :)

I must get a photo of the sunroof - it's huge.

There's two glass sections - one in the front that's quite a bit bigger than the Octavia's and then a smaller one above the rear seats. Only the front one opens but it lets a huge amount of light in.

I've also been playing with the blue&me this weekend.

The media player works well and the phone system is very handy (it will pair with 5 phones apparently).

It's not a perfect car (no footrest by the clutch and not enough storage areas for my liking) but I've not found anything that's going to spoil my enjoyment.

Who's the tuner of choice for Fiat remaps?
