amplifier on back of seat?

Featured Replies

hi folks, what does everybody think about mounting a amplifier on the back of a rear seat? the seats have metal backs so i'm thinking maybe just drill a small pilot then use self taping screws? is there any reason why this shouldn't be done like vibration or cooling? obviously the cabling needs to be properly insulated etc..

advice greatfully recieved:)

Will the amp fit in either side of the boot? If you do want to fit it to the back of the seat it should be fine but you could box it. This is something I made for my Escort Turbo and the LEDS light up green when the amp was on:

you should attach a piece of mdf to the back of the seat and then attach the amp to the mdf m8

Ive attatched plenty of amps directly onto the back of a seat before now. As long as its secure then its fine.

agreed, and my uncle recently had a very expensive rainbow amp fitted this way to his mondeo ST by a reputable sheffield car sound system installer (source sounds), so am sure if there was a problem with it they wouldnt be doing it either

I had an smallish 2ch Alpine amp on the back of my rear seats in my last Octy 2 for my sub. It was secured with two screws and velcro. No probs in 3.5 years.

The amp in my Mk1 went onto the back of the seat and was there for 3 years without problems.

Just use quite broad and very short screws so there's no chance of them stabbing your passengers in the back.

Oh , and double sided foam sticky tape is handy for holding it in place while you attach it.

Industrial Vecro for holding it there while you're doing it then pot rivets so you don't have any sharp bit sticking in the seat back.

Same here.

As an alternative, why not fit it to the back of the sub box, that's what I've done with mine.

thats also what i have done before, and very handy if you want to clear the boot quickly for unforseen need of putting seats down..load carrying

The only slightly possible issue could be the amp over heating, however i would be extremely surprised by this as ive only ever had one amp over heat and that was running for over 24 hours straight under the floor in my boot which was full of clothes and was been driven hard (the amp) so shouldnt be an issue.

in fact this post is pretty wasteful!!!

its where mine has been in my octy and its been there 2 and a half years and no problems so get fitting:thumbup:

it's all still in the planning stages at the moment, now thinking about a 5 channel amplifier if i can find one cheap enough

If you have an aftermarket headunit you could take out the CD changer basket and fit it in the cubby hole :D

Surprisingly when the basket is removed there is enough ventilation directly above with hot air going up to rear 1/4 pillar.

Me too... and as said it's very handy if you want to take it out quickly... like getting to the spare wheel. I have one of these from Halfrauds too so i can just unplug the lot in one go!

can those quick release connectors take a 4 gauge cable?

I have two amps fitted in this location. Looks smart and doesn't affect loading space. My sub is fully removable, so I get to keep my shopping net and still lower the seats if I want. Recommended.

Errr... will check tomorrow what cable I have... It is pretty meaty cable I have and the connectors are pretty big.
