Dash problem

Featured Replies

Hi,

My Fabia 1.9 SDI (ASY) has an intermittent problem where, upon starting the car, the dashboard instruments read high - for example the speedo reading about 4mph when stopped. The only way to fix this is to switch the engine off, pull key out and wait about 5 seconds.

I have contacted several garages - my local ex-Skoda franchise garage suggested that charge was building up somewhere causing the dials to read higher. Another garage thought it may be a failing dashpod and quoted £760 - however the dials still work when this problem happens they just reads high.

On investigating the problem all I can find is a bent wire in a fuse (you can see the wire on top of the fuse and the fuse itself is 'open-top' - so to speak - and a light brown colour) on top of the battery in position 10.

Could this be some sort of earth or fuse issue or should my wallet be fearing the worst lol.

Many thanks for your help,

Jim

Thought i would answer you as don't think many, if anyone will have come across this before, seems a strange one. Don't know how much it would be, but could you get another dash from a scrappies and try that, before splashing out £800. I would think you would only be talking £50 max from a scrappies, worth asking.

Also if the fuse is slightly damaged, just get a new one, so little money and it will eliminate it as the problem. On saying that, if its intermittant, then its probably not a fuse.
