Octavia 1.8t vRS advice please

Featured Replies

Good evening all, first time poster.

I am seriously considering buying the above car in the next few days & would really appreciate some advice. The car is a 2005 '55' plate. It is an ex company car with 56k on the clock (1 previous owner) & has all the toys you would expect. The service is due in a few months & apart from the usual bits, is there anything that I should replace if I buy the car (timing belt, water pump etc...), or anything that is likely to fail. I was considering a Seat Leon Fr TFSi (£10k), but the Skoda seems a snip at £5000, Went for a test drive today & the power from the 1.8t engine seems amazing, seeing as it is a fairly large car. Is there anything I should pay close attention to before I part with my hard earned money?

Thanks in advance for your help.

REVO is a company that provides ECU remaps for improved performance. So it is likely that the software in the ECU has been altered to provide additional performance unless somebody has just stuck the sticker on the back for looks. You will need to declare this to your insurance company if indeed it has been remapped, but revo is a reputable remap and should give you more response from the car.

I think the common fault on the 1.8TSI was the ignition coil packs. I would also enquire about the timing belt change as if it hasn't already been done it will need doing soon. Also check for blue smoke out the back from the turbo when you rev it, a sure sign of trouble. Also check the electric windows work properly as these were prone to failure.

The 1.8T is a very good engine used across the VAG range. Yes I'd look at the cam belt and a water pump as well.

Coil packs can be an issue, but most cars will have the later packs as a replacement if any failed.

I so miss the kick of the 1.8T on my FSi Octy 2 :(

One other thing, Alarms. The Mk1 Octy didnt have one. Depending on your area, might be a consideration. A cat1 decent one like clifford with anti hijack will be around £3-500

company cars dont get messed with(mines a leaseplan contract hire car),in my motor trade experience it will probably have been driven round by someone after the company sold it without registering it but it might be me just been paranoid or the company was a pzza shop needing speedy deliveries .

33 9 years ncb clean licence shocking postcode admiral £425 comp as of my renewal 5/5/09

upto you you if you tell insurance about remap what your not aware of you cannot tell them :holmes:

And he has just stated it may be remapped on a public forum, Doh! So if it has been remapped not much of an option.
