If money is no object, what parts would you buy to get the most out of your Octavia?

Featured Replies

I've been toying with the idea of buying a few bits to improve my Octavia. It's not worth me trying to sell it and get a VRS instead because I would lose a fair bit of money, just had a cam belt and a big service done which cost me £800. So I am thinking about what parts you would get to improve your Octavia.

If Skoda can go from 140bhp to 170bhp using the same 2.0 diesel engine I am sure I can make an improvement on the 104bhp 1.9 TDI PD setup - or find a written off 2.0 and get the engine to dump in there! How much of the car is the same on the 1.9 compared to the 2.0 (preferably 4x4)? My car is fairly new (built August 05) but has done a lot of miles (120k) so I was thinking if I need to replace any parts I will do with better ones instead of the stock stuff.

My only concern with modifications is insurance, as some companies use any excuse to charge silly premiums - direct line won't insure me if I put in legal tinted privacy glass because I am under 25. But since money would be no object, what would your ideal combination of parts be?

I think my ideal end result would be the a 6-speed manual 4x4 2.0 estate, tuned to be the equivalent of the VRS. Give it lowered hard sports suspension, bigger disks with better brakes, rear arb, decent tyres on the largest skoda alloys. I don't know much about the specifics, which is why I started this thread to get some ideas!

Hi

IMO just get a remap for now

However, if you do want to throw loads of money at it, instead of getting a new car, then Big turbo, Uprated Clutch, Exhaust, Filter and Remap should see a huge improvement over standard.

Budget circa £3k for that

Then lowered suspension or Coilies if your flush, Big brake conversion and some 18" Alloys

Budget circa £2k+ for that

But you have to ask yourself, is it really worth throwing that amount at it?

Your under 25 and your insurance will be sky high

IMHO save your money and wait, then get a TFSi vRS when your able and get it remapped to 240bhp for £350ish

To get your diesel to those figures its going to cost a fortune :(

I probably won't be upgrading anything that is only exclusively for the 1.9 engine - as that would be expensive and the money is lost on that car. But I was just toying with the idea because if I can buy parts for my current octavia, then I could always use them on the next octavia if I do buy a VRS in the future. Brakes, wheels, tyres, suspension, ARBs, exhaust, air filters, etc... most if not all should be able to be used on any mk2 octavia, and I'm after parts that are better than the VRS stock parts. If I do then sell the 1.9 I can put the stock parts back on.

Ah...Now I see your plan

Thats ok then, I thought you were just doing the mods for the current car, which I would have advised against

If you had made it clear you were buying them with a view to transplanting them to your next car, I could have understood the logic

I like your style young man :D

Agree with Damo - a remap is a good start and I intend to when the warranty's done.

combine that with a remap and you have a vRS TDI.

What remap do you know that gives 66bhp gain? :P

And where can I get one done?

Id imagine the JKM big brake upgrade would fit on your car which is the upgrade for the vRS stock caliper

It would but standard wheels won't fit over them, you'd need to uprate those to 18" so it becomes rather expensive ........................................... and considering the amount of power you'll likely to achieve not worth it imo.

Stick with a quality remap as a first step is good advice

My advice is never to build what you can already buy. If what you really want is a vRS, then don't spend loads of cash on building one from a lesser model. Save your money until you can afford what you really want.

If money were no object...................

A 2.0 TFSI engine, gear box and whatever else was required to replace the TDI :D

What about a MFD3 maybe with bluetooth phone? also with the part that can allow you to watch TV on the screen. That should not make your insurance go sky high

Then nicer place to be inside and save the rest for a new car as the year go by....

A V10........job done!

Good point, id forgot about the wheels

Money no object? I would have the v16 from the Bugatti Veyron

I thought it was a W16:P
