if it's a genuine service history, it should had had a cam belt in 2006 and be due it's second in 2010. 4 year intervals.

i am goin to look at this car tomorrow. is there anything else i should look out for?

Price chipping by at least £500 to cover the cam belt job. As Silver Rocket says, it's 3 years overdue, and would be at least one year overdue even by its original schedule, so look very carefully for any evidence that the service history is less than kosher. On this point, some Skoda dealers use a colour (black and green rather than plain black) stamp. Also, if the last stamp is a Skoda dealer, phone them, ask for the service department, and ask them to check their records for whether or not the car had a service at that time (you may need the chassis number rather than just the registration): They can check this on-line in about a minute.

been to see the car and apart from a good valet inside the car was fine and drove as sweet as a nut. the service history looks ok not all skoda but service history. i have spoke to my local garage about cambelt and i can use genuine vag parts etc and it will be about £250-300 all in. would it do the car any harm if i was to put say an cai and recir dump valve on as it has been standard all this time.

thanks

CAI and DV shouldn't be a problem regardless of mileage, insurance will want to know though.

what about a remap?

would it do any damage?

nope unless any parts are a tad tired. remaps will expose all the weeknesses in the engine and components.

Also dont forget to change the water pump!!!! do a search mate to find out why. lol

I recon its a bit wierd that the car hasnt had a cam belt on it, on 79k its also 19k over due too, as well as a few years out. when you get it done(sooner rather than later) get them to show you the condition of the belt and the water pump.

sure youll love the car though mate

i havnt bought it yet but i am considering it as it looked a very good car for the money.

just wondering what mods i could do if i do buy it.

were do you think the best place for a remap is at the minute?

depends on what you want and where you are?

pm me if you want, I would first go for a rear anti role bar, pos the best handling mod you can do. go to your local audi place and get the lower brace for the old S3 and the bolts(just tightens up the front a bit)£30ish and you could get the upper one too? I not bothered.

RARB: there are a few but the whileline 22mm adj is £150 which is great unless you are thinkin of putting a bigger one on the front? then Id go for the 28mm Neuspeed which is well over £200.

then get a good set of discs all round and some good pads(check my sig. I like them but dont get dimpled breaks as they tick due to the hot gasses)

then get remap.

again it depends were you are and the funds you have.

If I started again Id get the above done first then full turbo back zorst, CAI, DV, TIP, FMIC.

once thats all done Id go for the custom remap at RS Tuning in leeds. they are the best Ive experienced and the maps are ace and i have had lots of trouble before with a few diff companies. check some of my old posts and threads.

doing it this way would mean you are only spending money once and getting the best out of the car.

Get an insurance quote with it standard, and then one with the remap, cai and DV and see what the difference is. I would have done the same 3 mods to mine as soon as I bought it but the insurance would have killed me.

thanks for all replys so far. very helpful

lol

yea get insurance quotes on it first.

try adrien Flux! for my car std, with my points I was lookin £650 with DirectLine and well over 1k everywhere else lol, went to AF for a quote for the mods to be honest lol, and £517 all mods (£3500) broken for new, any car 3rd party, 91 days euro cover, full break down cover anywhere in europe.

went to DL for a quote with the same mods and it was 3500 lol, and AF were quoting me 1k + for me and the car as std.

if all that makes sence lol

My insurance is pretty cheap to what alot of people I know pay (and on much lower insurance groups too in alot of cases) but adding a generic stage 1 remap adds 50% to the policy plus a "modified car excess" if I make a claim.

Whilst I'd enjoy the extra power I also enjoy squeezing the best out of what I've got so I couldn't justify the cost.

If your not sure on the service history then walk away, if your happy then it seems like a good price. Just remember to budget for a cam belt and water pump straight away. £350 or there abouts should cover it.

How much!!

Chris knott only added 15% to mine for a remap, fmic and CAI. I do live in a respectable area though :D

Yup, makes no difference on the postcode either (I live in lowest risk area).

Funnily enough though even with a 50% load my insurer still comes out cheapest both standard and modified, its just that my standard quote is very reasonable for my mileage/usage at £308.
