Octavia diesel tuning

Featured Replies

hiya guy's.

My sister is having my felicia, because im getting my mum's octavia.

Its a 1.9 TDI GLXI (ambient?) 1999 model.

What I want to know is about diesel tuning, Is it going to be the same as a petrol car?

I've got a few questions.

. I'd like a sporty looking exhaust, that sounds NICE (not a awful din) What can i get for a diesel model?

. An air filter would be the obvious accomplament to the exhaust. (I know where to look for that.)

. Is it true that I can have the ECU remapped back to 110 bhp or more?

. Turbo upgrade? what would give me the best torque figure?

. What aftermarket suspension is available, I can only see it for the vRS models.

. Are they 4 or 5 stud wheels?

I look forward to hearing your reply's.

(no im not going to buy a petrol one, untill i can afford the vRS)

thanks for the reply.

I believe mine is the 90bhp model.

To be honest 130 bhp is fine with me, and more torque is always nice.

So thats what im aiming for.

Could a fabia vRS turbo work on this model?

If I find an exhaust, and a ecu chip/remap.

what exhaust have you guy's got? and why do you like it?

bump

A remap will give you an extra 30bhp or so on either a 90 or a 110. To get much more than that you'd be looking at new turbos and injectors, but I doubt a PD130 conversion makes sense, esp since you'd still have a 5-speed box.

1) exhaust: its a diesel, it wont ever sound that great IMO. Nothing like as good as a petrol. So dont bother. A "de-cat" exhaust with no catalytic convertor can release some power (~3bhp) and "free-up" the engine a bit.

2) same for the air filter, wont really improve the noise etc, stock air flow is not restricitive on a 90bhp engine... dont bother.

3) ECU remap can get 30bhp, so up to 115-120bhp for you (stock 90bhp). still not that fast, might as well save the money towards a faster car, such as a VRs

4) turbo: dont bother, after paying for a remap, new injectors, new cooling, new ECU map you should have just saved the money for a stock VRS. insurance will be a pain in a modified car, even if it is basiclly a vrs, a standard vrs will be much cheaper!

5) vrs suspension is decent, of course other stuff such as Koni coilovers are available and rear torsion beam thingys etc. again, you might as well buy a vrs.

6) you need to budget for new, bigger brakes too...

all in, just dont bother, save the money for the vrs or the 150bhp 1.8T engine and a remap! Hope this helps... :)

ok so going on option 3.

That would be the best option for me, whats the best company to get a remap from?

And what prices am I looking at?

Also which is better, either a ecu remap or a box that plugs into the loom somewhere and confuses the ecu?

. Can you remap with VAG COM?

See if Impossible Performance at Canterbury will do a diesel remap?

Or you've got AMD over the river at Thurrock.

For a very cheap update you can put the injectors from a 110 in a TDI 90 and you will immediately get the extra power without a remap. Obviously your fuel MPG reading won't be accurate.

Then you could put on a larger turbo and intercooler and add a remap.

Regarding the exhaust I wouldn't bother. It won't sound nice and the thing will go black very quickly

once you turn up the juice.

A new MAF sensor and cleaning out the EGR will also make the car run like new so I'd probably suggest getting that done before you start playing with the car so you know where you're starting from.

On the suspension front, if you can get eibach/FSD go that route as the stock suspension means the car handles like a blancmange IMHO.

Also look at saving for decent tyres and using good quality brake pads etc (GSF OEM etc) when the parts wear.

. I'd like a sporty looking exhaust, that sounds NICE (not a awful din) What can i get for a diesel model? - Miltek or get yourself down to a LongLife or PowerFlow dealer to make up a custom tailpipe and de-cat pipe

. An air filter would be the obvious accomplament to the exhaust. (I know where to look for that.) - Pipercross or K&N Panel filter

. Is it true that I can have the ECU remapped back to 110 bhp or more? Unless your going go for a full exhaust/FMIC/Injectors etc etc stick with a generic remap

. Turbo upgrade? what would give me the best torque figure? Wouldn't bother

. What aftermarket suspension is available, I can only see it for the vRS models. - I have KW Springs and Dampers as I couldn't afford Coilovers and i've No regrets you will also be able to get Weitec which are made by KW but cheaper (if I had of known I would have bought Weitec Coilovers for the same money as I spent)

. Are they 4 or 5 stud wheels? 5 stud

- Brakes, you will have to change the hubs/calipers/carriers if you want togo for 312mm and you will also need to get a min of 16" Alloy wheels to clear the calipers so I would just look for a decent set of aftermarket discs and pads for your current brake setup.

Don't just look at performance mods, theres loads more you can do on the inside too, Seats/Dash surround/ICE the list goes on.

cheers for the reply's.

while i remember, I've put some speakers in the parcel shelve grills.

But I need to run the wiring through from the headunit.

Where is the best place to run the cables in the octavia?

Pictures please (if possible)

The seats arn't as comfy as my felicia L&K's leather seats, if only they'd fit. ;)

It should already be there at the sides so just run wherever that goes IMHO.

Also I'd avoid putting them in the shelf unless you're going to reinforce it as the shelf will sag.

I meant the grills to the side of the parcel shelve.

I've taken the carpet off the sides, to look for the wiring, but I can't see any unused wiring.

Well there is a single brown wire with a plastic cover over it. taped to the harness.

Also where is the best place to get the 110 injectors.

ebay, skoda stealership, breakers yard?

What exact model are they from, so I get the right ones. (any trim just not ambient?)

classic, elagance,

110 injectors will be on any 1.9D VAG car badged TDi. Octy-wise that includes the A4 in Elegance and early L&K trims, and at least some pre-facelift GLX models.

If you want to go really silly I believe you can even fit the injectors out of a 2. something caravelle TDI for even more flow but I wouldn't bother.

Injectors as ken said are found in many VAG TDI 110 cars, so try breakers yards.

These will be in golf, leon, octy MK I elegance, Passat, some Audi and it's just a case of finding a 110 engine, getting them and then IMHO sending them off to be cleaned and renozzeled before you put new ones in.
