aircon problem....

Featured Replies

hi all,

i am having problems with the aircon on my 2005 octavia 1.6l petrol elegance.

i think the problem is intermitant, not 100% sure yet.

i noticed the problem last week, and brought it in to a garage to get it re-gassed. i was told there was a problem and the machine was unable to re-gasss it,and it could be the compressor(please dont let it be the very expensive compressor...). however i knew the outside air temp gauge was faulty and got the sensor replaced, the temp gauge is now working fine. at first the aircon seemed to work again,an icey quality to it. today it was not working. is there an interior temp sensor?if so where?

any ways to test the compressor,or eliminate other ideas?

can anyone tell me the part number for the compressor?

many thanks.

Watching this thread with interest, because my aircon is not cold, and I'm going to get it checked when the car goes in for a service soon, but if it's anything remotely serious then they're doing it under warranty (they don't know this yet...)

mine is well out of warranty....

can anyone tell me the location of the cabin temp sensors please?

All I can say is that when I had problems with my AC they initially tried to re-gass mine.

The machine was also unable to re-gass mine and it was found the compressor was faulty.

Thankfully mine was in warranty as I was quoted around £800 for the part alone and then it's a 2hr job for 2 people as half the car needs stripping down.

Fingers crossed it isn't the compressor.

yeah am really hoping its not the compressor.

any ideas?

hope to get a vag com on car today.any codes to look for? think sensors or ecu might be at fault. compressor pipe seems freezing cold, but not getting into cabin?

Could be a flap motor preventing airflow across the evaporator. If the compressor suction pipe is getting cold it would seem it is doing its job properly.

didnt get to use the vagcom, any one able to tell me the part number for the compressor? want to know rough cost before i get it looked at. prob about £550?

Price of the compressor is not the whole story. If the compressor has failed there may be debris in the system. This will require a strip and flush of the system and possibly other parts such as expansion valve (orifice tube) etc etc. You really need to determine the problem and get a quote from an air-con technician. You cannot DIY on these systems. If compressor has failed in a big way then expect £1000+

About time VAG sorted out their aircon systems so they last longer than 2 years - bit of a disgrace really.

am going to get an aircon tech to take a look, not going to spend big on getting it fixed though....windows down and sun roof open methinks.

cheers.

back to climatic problem. got it looked at. seems the compressor works. no fault codes showing. aircon tech thought it could be expansion valve that needs to be replaced, but not sure.

is there an evaporator temp sensor on climatic?if so where?only ask as climate seems to work for a few seconds when started from cold?

ta muchly.

compressor faults is common arcoss all vag group range.

if it is the compressor ...there is a cure not commonly known.

i can be fixed by purchasing a new regulator valve for the compressor for about 60-70 euro plus regassing

i wrote a thread recently ...which did'nt seem to get response...

which surprised me since the fault is common..and does'nt show on vag com.

the internal parts stop working but the solenoid inside still works...hence no fault codes

here's the cure

http://briskoda.net/octavia-ii/octavia-2-c-compressor-cure/152860/

for all those with octavia a/c problems...

my a/c stopped working..no cooling.

vag com showed no fault codes.....usually what is recommended is a new compressor @ cost 600 euro plus installation

after much research..and help from an a/c friend of mine.;; we discovered that the common problem with these is the compressor regulator valve[n280]..

all that needs to be replaced is this part.

i have found these are hard to find because the part number is not always the same as vag parts.

but they are available at between 55-90 euros each

example:

Comercial EL TREBO S.C.A - Especialistas en alternadores, motores de arranque y compresores de A/A

probably could be found elsewhere

all that need to be done now is remove old one

it is only held in with circlip and can be removed with compressor in place

it is tricky and you need circlip pliers with angle[cheap] but with patience all should be ok

gas should probably have been removed first either by pressing cycle type valves..or vac equipment[see friendly a/c man]

oil in compressor will be ok you won't lose it

replace with new one...replace circlip

now all you need is a/c man to vacumm the system and regas

total cost..150 -200 euro depending on your a/c man

it works....believe me

the n280 valve apparently starts to stick after a few years...but still clicks with 12v..

vag com still thinks it's working..hence no fault code..[not vag com fault]

the compressor is also known as ZEXEL DCS-17E

this might be a good sticky

hope this helps

nice one mate. will try to get a spainish speaker,or might try and get a scrapper part. how do i take out safely remove valve? do i have to drain system of gas first? how would i do this?

wierd thing..... when car was scanned for fault codes it came up on computer as octavia 1????its an octavia 11??? is this because it has the older 1.6 mpi petrol engine?

could'nt tell you that myself...about vag com

on the aircon

a friend of mine ordered a part from spain with great diffulty...[i from barcelona...]

so i'll see if it arrives......

what part of country you in?

am based in mullingar, trying to order one from spain too,no joy on web site. trying to track down a spainish speaker to ring for me.

My aircon failed to blow cool today. Called in Kwik-Fit for a regas but, even after regassing, still no luck. When I got home I ran the engine with the aircon full on and the compressor was quite noisy. The noise stopped when the aircon was switched off. Could this be just the regulator valve as mentioned above or am I faced with having to have a whole new unit fitted?

I daren't even think about the cost!!!!!

Regards,

Dave

noise sounds like a different problem........

a friend of mine ordered from spanish....they're on holidays he says

i'll report back when he receives it..

the dutch site is easier..they speak english...but where out of stock..but will have some soon
