New or Re-furbished wheels?

Featured Replies

I am having my wheels powder-coated and painted in anthracite tomorrow... same day drive in service £240 inclusive of everything.... strip new valves refit and balance....

Opinions please..... re-furbish or replace?!!

Nothing wrong with refurbishing if you like the wheels, but £240 seems on the high side.

I'd say around £40 per corner is what's most commonly quoted on here.

Same day service also worries me - do they really have time to prep, paint, dry/cure etc in that time? Some things just shouldn't be rushed.

Who is doing it? Have you selected based on recommendation by others, or just because they are convenient?

I see you are in MK - I'm sure Lummox has someone he recommends in your area.

I used the wheel specialists. It cost me £180 (jan sale) to have all four wheels stripped repaired and repainted. I dropped them off at 8:00 in the morning and collected them at around 5ish that evening but I had to wait as they were still cooling down. They put new valves on but I had the tyres added later on (when I could afford them).

There is a small blemish in the new paint work but I'm happy with the overall effect.

BJV Engineering are just outside of Hemel Hempstead and they charge £150 for a set of 4 wheels, powdercoated to a pretty good finish.

£240 does seem high, but I think you're paying for the same-day aspect of it.

I've got a full set of Anthracites in the garage if you wanted pictures of BJV's workmanship.

Alloy Wheel Refurbishment and Repairs

Quoted me £180+vat strip refurbishment & repaint that was a 2 day service and to keep the car on site.

That's pretty good.... just over £30 less than the drive-in same day service I just used at The Wheel Specialist in Birmingham.
