Battery warning light on all the time

Featured Replies

Hi. I`ve got a strange problem on my Fabia TDi. Since going to Inverness in February, in atrocious conditions, 4 - 6 inches of snow, I`ve had a problem with the battery warning light on the dash being permanently on. When I put the car in reverse, the light goes out. I`m getting 14 odd volts from the alternator, and the battery is in good condition. I`m wondering if there is an external reversing light switch in the front of the car - maybe on the gearbox - which may be full of salty water, and shorting out. As a temporary solution, I`ve removed the reversing lamp bulbs, but it would be nice to get the problem sorted. The car has probably done 2,500 miles since this started, btw. Anyone with any ideas?

check the wiring down the front of the engine between the starter and the alternator , one of the wires has a habit of snapping
