Newbie intro and question.

Featured Replies

Hi all.

Been lurking around the forum for a while, thought I'd say hello.

Got hold of a 06/56 Fabia VRS in Sprint Yellow last week (the best colour, lol) and I'm loving it at the moment.

I know everyone appreciates pictures, but haven't got any taken yet; something I hope to rectify soon.

I love the pace of the thing; it feels massively over-engined and has a real turn of speed. i had thought I'd immediately be taking it to 160hp, but I have the feeling the front tyres wouldn't last very long.

Just a quick question. Obviously, with 236lb/ft going through the front wheels it's going to torque steer at times, but it seems to pull to the left quite conspicuously (not under breaking, in a straight line and during acceleration). It's going to the garage to fix a whistling turbo tomorrow; if I tell them of this problem is there a quick fix, or do 'they all do that'.

Cheers everybody for a great forum (I'm also over on audi-sport.net with my other yellow car, an 07 A3 Sportback; the VRS is going to be the wife's car when it's truly sorted).

The pulling to the left could be due to the camber of the road, and yes Fabias do seem quite affected by it. When safe to do so try driving on the opposite side of the road, and see if it pulls to the right...

Oh, and welcome to the site :D

mine also pulls left, i thought i read somewhere it maybe a weight issue? but i may have imagined it :D most peolpe say it does go left thou!

i guess the cars an ambi-turner

Cheers for the quick opinions and welcome guys.

I'll check tyre pressures as well to see if that is affecting it adversely.

welcome along - yellow though?!

mine pulled to the left really badly all the time but during a service it was revealed I had knacked front bushes and dodgy tracking. Although on a 56 plate your bushes should be fine.

Both issues sorted out and it still pulls to the left but only little!

Rebus - Welcome.

Before you remap, followng mods are a must 1st - a) Cupra air intake & B) Panel air filter. ( a search here should get you the part number for intake, and most popular filter used. )

This will cut down the soot from the exhaust, and keep the buttox of your car nearer to yellow rather that black.

You can reasonably safetly take it to 180 BHP & 300lb/ft torque ( my previous car was at this) without any major problems and provided you dont thrash it. With this setup you WILL get wheelspin if you try to accellerate to hard in most gears.

Cheers lfc.

Yes, I'd checked out the thread on fitting the Cupra air intake - engine needs it for better breathing I think.

Other mods I'm thinking of include the Cupra front splitter, and a set of Octavia VRS 2 17inch wheels with decent tyres. Will probably need to drop it a little as well if I move up a wheel size.

At the moment it's standard and I'm just enjoying it.

Yep, yellow!

whistleing turbo? you sure its not just the turbo fan? i thought when i got mine it was wrong but was told its just the turbos fan going, always came under acceleration

Welcome mate, I have only recently joined and they are a good friendly bunch on here.

We all know yellow is the best colour

and a set of Octavia VRS 2 17inch wheels with decent tyres.

Octy 2 wheels won't fit i'm afraid. Fabia has a PCD of 100x5 where as the Octy 2 has PCD of 112x5

Octy 1 wheels slot straight on and the saught after Spiders come in 16" from the VRS estates and 17" from the hatchbacks but you will need lower profile tyres than Octy standard on the 17's to avoid kicking your speedo out

Welcome to the forum , I hope you enjoy your car! Im looking forward to the pics as there aren't many in Sprint Yellow , most Yellow vRS' will be Lemon , not Sprint.

Hi all - thanks for the welcome.

Yes, it's definitely Sprint Yellow, not Lemon. As a discerning yellow owner I love it (it's a lot brighter than my Toucan Yellow A3 - now there's a rare colour, especially on a Sportback). A special order colour (not Audi Exclusive though, that's far too expensive).

Thanks for the info regarding wheels, sizes and tyres. There's plenty of meat on my rubber at the moment, so it will stay standard for a while yet.

And as for the whistling turbo - that's just what we thought it could be. It's in the garage now so we'll see what they come up with - does seem to be linked to throttle movement/acceleration, but it came about recently, wasn't there before, so it's definitely a problem of some sort.
