Valve Failure 1.4 16v BBZ

Featured Replies

Just wondering if anyone else has had valve failure on the 1.4 16v BBZ. Happened to me this morning, and the car has only done 36,000 miles, and I am rather surprised. The garage hasn't had the head off yet to diagnose the cause. Anyone else had this problem?

Don't know yet - the dealer hasn't had the head off to have a look. All signs point to valve failure - just curious if anyone else has had this with this engine. Given the miles etc, I was surprised. I know the older AUB is practically legendary for piston ring failures, but haven't heard much about valve failure.

Was there a big bang when it went?

The only thing i can think of is that the timing belt has jumped/snapped or the valve has had cracks in the material, which has led to premature failure of the valve.

It's probably dropped a valve. It's not common, but occasionally the valve snaps were the collets are fitted, either that or a valve spring has broken.

I was waiting at a traffic light, the car started to shudder slightly, and then I went to pull away and noticed the engine warning light flashing repeatedly at me. I was definitely down on power, but the car still pulled along ok - I think therefore it must be the valves on one of the cylinders only? No bang or anything. I drove the car to the garage straight away.

The car is 4 years and 9 months old, so hoping that skoda customer service will lend a hand with the cost of the repair.
