Rear camber adjustment

Featured Replies

Hi, could somebody explain or show with a picture/diagram where the adjustment for camber on the rear suspension is ?? A local tyre fitter (large well known chain) claimed during 4WA that there was no camber adjustment on my Octavia2, I would love to go back to him armed with the facts...............please help !!

Im pretty sure there is no adjustment as such other than shimming which isnt something a tyre fitter is likely to take on

I have seen a few posts dealing with revised camber settings, this doesn't make much sense if you can't change them ????

I know for a fact you can adjust it. I had mine done about 3 weeks ago. My rear camber was miles out and its a well known issue on the A5 Octavia. Don't bother with the national tyre fitters, they aren't capable of much more than front tracking (at best) and scratching your alloys to feck. Front tracking adjustment is all good and well provided your rear wheels are correct in the first place

You need to find a place that specialises in 4 wheel laser alignment, they'll adjust it no problem.

I'm no expert so I can't advise on the actual procedure but here is a very good thread on wheel alignment here: http://briskoda.net/maintenance-performance/wheel-alignment-big-con/125397/

dstev2000 is bang on correct with that. it is adjustable, FACT!

i know this as i stood and watched him adjust it as my rear was way out on my last check and they brought it back in. I

Thanks everybody for your input, I have paid for 4 wheel allignment and I want to be able to go back into him and show him where the adjuster is and get the job finished !!! I know I should have no confidence in him.......but if he's not shown......he'll never know. They have the 4 wheel allignment equipment and it is only about 3mins from my home.

so how do you actually adjust it? i know you wouldnt do it your self without the correct equipment to measure it, its just for my own interest :)

That one I don't know the answer to, I'm afraid.

Its an eccentric bolt so you undo the nut and turn the bolt head which alters the camber and the same for the toe.

Are they the eccentric bolts that are clearly visible as you look in from the rear of the car ??

Yeah, they have a washer on them which is offset so as you turn the bolt the washer connectes with the rear subframe and pushes the bolt at a different offset if that makes sense.

Is that like on a Mk1 Golf or Scirocco front strut?

Cheers, thats what I thought. This wouldn't give you much confidence in the technician at my branch of Ad***ce Tyres considering the adjusters where staring him in the face while the car was up on the ramp. I have found another place that seem to know what they are talking about but at the same time, I feel I have already paid the original crowd and they should finish the job !! ( a dilema me thinks)

I would at least fire off a whinging email to said tyre chain's head office telling them you've had to pay again to get the job done. I for one would be somewhat ****ed having to pay twice for one job.

There isn't really much excuse for not knowing this kind of thing if you are offering 4 wheel alignment and are in that business in general. And its not as if this platform hasn't been out long is it

Go somewhere else. They will **** it up.

I'm amazed by the lack of knowledge exhibited by some sections of the motor trade.

Heres a exploded diagram of the rear suspension with all the relevant part no's.

Part 10 goes through part 15 to adjust the top side, and no 11 through 8 for the lower adjustment.

Just make sure he doesn't leave one wheel further out than the other!

Thanks Mr Browny, thats exactly the type of thing I was looking for, " the blessins of god on ya " as we say over here in Ireland.

I had to replace the top and bottom arms on both sides, as the bolts had actually rusted into the steel collars in the eccentric bushes.

It wasn't a cheap job to do, but at the end of the day i had to replace the arms as thats the only way of getting hold of the bushes, and renew the bolts and some of the bushes at the same time. Bearing in mind my car had done 127k around that time.

The top eccentric bushes are right at the top, almost against the body of the car.

The bottom ones are easy to see, follow the bottom arms along from the wheel inwards, then you will see the washers with the offset holes.
