indicator relay replacement

Featured Replies

hi,

my left indicator has stopped working and the clicking is running at double time, both bulbs are new, the side one - i cant get to, im hoping its LED.

its a fabia sdi classic from 2000, checked the hazard, no difference.

im thinking i should replace the indicator relay (would people agree?), where is it?!

//edit: if its clicking, doesnt that mean the relays working but with too much charge passing through it?

tia

If the Indicators on the other side work ,this would mean the relay is working OK.

Clicking at faster speed usually means ,one of the bulbs is not connecting. I would check bulb on the bad side again ,including the holder, and wiring connections to the holder.

Try the Hazard Switch, if this works all 4 bulbs correctly, this would mean all 4 bulbs, and wiring etc is OK.There may be 2 relays, one for the Indicators, and one for the Hazard Warning. The correct way to find fault is to compare the wiring diagram (Haynes,or on this site ) with the car , and follow voltages through to the bulb socket with a multimeter. If you are not used to doing this ,it would be better to get help.

I have done Electronic Fault Finding for longer than I care to mention (I'm 65) ,and normally found when somebody has been ' trying to fix it' without knowledge,it makes the job harder . If you cause another fault in the circuit (say blow fuse) you will never fix the problem, because you now have 2 faults!

Hope this Helps

AFAIK, the relay for the hazards is integral to the switch on the dash, whereas the one for the indicators is above the driver's right knee (not sure if you can access it by pulling the can cooler out...)

But relays generally either work or they don't - fast flashing almost always indicates ('scuse the pun) a bulb out.
