Oxygen Sensor Fault - 17511

Featured Replies

I booked the car into the local dealers for a diagnostics check (no warning lights are on but I thought I'd do it just in case) and it had this fault stored:

17511 - Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor Heating: B1 S1: Performance too Low- sporadic.

The dealer was really vague and couldnt seem to answer my questions  So basically, as there is no warning light on, does this mean I dont need to worry for now? Will the car be running too lean/rich? Should I buy a new lambda sensor before it damages the cat? And would this make the car boost differently under full load as I sometimes get a lack of boost?

Sadly it doesnt throw much light on your problem, regarding the other questions, im afraid this is a bit of a grey area for me, sorry.

Im sure someone in the know on here will be able to assist you.

Cheers mate. I had a look at that before but it doesn.t say what symptons etc to look out for.

It could be an old code, one that wasn't cleared from a previous replacement due to failure and the code not erased at that time?

Get the code cleared and see if it comes back, is there anyone near you with vagcom? they can clear the code for you and recheck later.

Just a thought.

The word sporadic is the key. A fault with the heating circuit on the probe before the catalyst has been logged and has not re-ocurred after so many driving cycles.

It doesn't look like anything to worry about, as it is not a 'live' fault. If the fault was 'live', the light would be on and a new probe would be the most likely fix. I have seen a Fabia with this fault (light on) pass the MOT emissions test, as the test is conducted at normal engine temperature and the probe heater only comes into play during warm up.

Sound advice in post #4 about getting the fault cleared.

NitroVRS and Fordfan - Thanks for your advice. I will get it cleared and see if it pops back up.:thumbup:
