Remote key fob alarm

Featured Replies

hey all i have another little dilemma when i purchased my fabia last weeek or so it would appear i only have the spare key which means i am having to lock the door manually and open the boot via switch next to drivers seat. i have been looking on ebay for a fob and i can see plenty of 3 button fobs but i am unsure whether to buy as i dont know how and where it can be cut an programmed.

could i buy a second hand one perhaps and reprogramme it myself after having it cut elsewhere

any help would be appreciated thanx

Unless you really do your homework I'm afraid it's not going to be cheap.

If you buy a key on ebay you'll need one with the correct immobiliser chip in that's unused, and the radio part needs to be the correct frequency for your car. Somewhere online a guy sells the blank immobiliser chips for installing into remote fobs but you'll need to be good with small screws and screw drivers to do the install into a key.

Then you'll need your 4 digit SUK code that comes with the car, on a tag with the keys.. if you don't have this I believe it's a dealer only affair, I don't think they can even get these for you anymore and have to hook the car and key to be programmed up to the Skoda network? (I could be soooo wrong on that though) and if it's a 3 button remote your after I'm afraid it's around £160 programmed.

What spec is your car? If it's classic I'm not even sure you can get a remote key with out having to buy the full operating kit.

If it's just remote locking you want it might well be easier to get one of these cheap after market fob kits from someone like maplin.

its a fabia 1.4 mpi engine code atz

What trim level is it? Classic or Comfort/Ambient.

Either way, the easiest thing to do is just pop into Skoda and see what they say, especially if you don't have the SUK code.

hi its "classic" trim and i just want to be able to use the central locking and for the boot so i dont have to press the switch beside the seat

im a bit of a techy with computer and have been rummaging around google and came across a few places with a few simple instructions on how to reprogramme the key yourself (seems a bit too good to be true) but hey ill giv anythin a go if its saves some cash

basicallly if i got an uncut key and fob i could have it cut then i would put one key into the ignition and then using the 2nd key lock the door then press unlock of the fob."or something to that effect" im not sure how true this is but this was the route i was hoping to take

sorry you said maplins have remote system,is this self installing or would i have to take it to a garage for installation

just looking at my key on both sides it has 3 digits near the top of the key top (top, being closest to fingers when unlocking ur car for example) on one side is has FAB and i cant make out the other side

FAB obviously means Fabia

FAB obviously means Fabia

Obviously it does not ! my son has a Octavia and his has FAB on it !

I think it is the make of the metal key bit

You dont have to? Ive got the exact same model as you and engine code, except my trims a Comfort(apparantly...). All you have to do is press the unlock button on your fob 2-3 times in succession and it unlocks all the doors on the car, including the boot. This is what I do to open the boot rather then pull the button next to the drivers seat.

Do you have remote central locking? If you dont then you can buy a remote but it wont do anything.

this is what im talkilng about i dont know i only bouht the car 2 weeks ago and was only given 1 key which means i am having to open the boot via swich next to seat and when i open a door i have to open every door indiviually pit of a pain if there is 4 other ppl getti in all i wanted to know was what can i do to maybe track down a fob and primary key surely it did have one theres plenty of them on ebay for my model so im presuming this is manufacturer-standard

If you have remote CDL you get two remote keys so i would think you dont have it.

So a remote key is going to do naff all for you.

The Classic spec car doesnt have remote locking as standard. Only CL operated by using key in drivers door lock.

first of all thanks for the reply

secondly if that is the case could someone tell me why it doesnt work then when i un/lock the drivers door if i was to unlock the drivers door it simply only unlocks the drivers door! the rest i have to pull the internal handle twice once for unlock second for open door can be a pain in the **** though if my missus tries to open the hande at the same time lol

Depending upon the age I don't think Classic even had central locking as standard.

SWMBO's 2004 Classic doesn't have central locking at all. The boot is an absolutely monumental pain in the a**e. Years ago I had a Toyota with remote locking on the boot like this, but at least you could also use the key to open the boot as well.

thanx all who replied

So you dont have CDL anyhow?

not that i know of every door has to be manually opened boot has to be opened by switch beside driver seat surely that wasnt the way the skoda intended it

Yup, I think it is I'm afraid.. by making the boot only open from the drivers seat it means they don't have to fit a solenoid to pull on the latch.

I'm not even sure (on this set-up) the boot actually "locks" probably just latches and because there is no external opener you can't open it so, in effect, locked..

Be interesting to get a mate to stand at the back, lock your self in..try opening the boot and seeing if it pops and ya mate can open it. I bet he/she can!

My Elegance had a boot flap by the drivers seat, a button above the rear reg plate and a 3rd button on the remote.. My vRS has only the reg plate button and the one of the fob.. no cable release from he drivers seat.

lol, opening the boot can varey so much from spec to spec on a fabia!

Thinking about it, if your technically minded.. you could probably fit the reg plate release button and electrics from a scrapper?
