Coolant leak, grrr

Featured Replies

Right a few months ago the coolant level was slowly dropping. Read many post on this but no answers.

Changed the bottle cap and topped up to max. Go for a drive and its fine for a day or so, then it drops to about 2cm from the bottom of the expansion tank.

Was up on the ramps and I noticed the pink residue had dried on the metal protecting the car from the exhaust. So unless its travelling, it must be coming from the back of the engie

Cannot seem to locate the leak. Pressure tested it and left it on for most of the day and it hardly leaked.

Any ideas?

The coolant temp sensor on the vRS is on the right-hand side of the engine, facing the back, I know from experience ( :o ) that a leak round the seal on that can empty the circuit pretty sharpish, although it only bubbles out like a saucepan boiling when the engine's running. Then again, I suppose once you're moving, the drips would be carried in the airflow through the engine bay...

HTH :)

Is that just below the fuel pump? I read about that, but my local Skoda guy said he's never heard of those failing

Yeah. Over the time we've had our Fabias, both have had new coolant temp sensors, and I must admit the new one on SWMBO's used the old O-ring for some time without any ill effects (contrary to best practice).

The problem I had was that I'd pulled it out of SWMBO's engine to check the state of the thermostat, and didn't re-seat it correctly. If no-one's been anywhere near yours, though, it's not going to be that.
