Powerflow or Blue flame?

Featured Replies

Hi

Ok, So, Im after a "burble" from the car and some sort of power increase, my cars remapped with a Green filter and a forge DV on. Its a 2003 Octy vRS.

I have been quoted £310 for a powerflow cat back system with oval tail pipe (fitted)

And I have seen a place on EBAY which works out at £310 ftted for a blue flame system, i Know lots of people on here have blueflame but not many have powerflow. Are they no good on the vRS? Been tryin to pick a system up 2nd hand (credit crunch) but no one sells them (cant blame them as they last a lifetime)

Cheers for any advice...

Matt

I had a Powerflow system on my Audi 90 about 10 years ago.

I specced it at first with twin 3" DTM tailpipes and it was really loud and droney on the motorway.

Took it back and got a new back box with twin 2.5" pipes and it was great.

Still quite loud but sounded like a TVR when flooring it.

I had a full powr flow system on my last car. It was already on it when I bought the car and I couldn't wait to get it off. Not very good quality at all and not the best noise i've heard from an exhaust. Nobody I know can recommend them.

I've got a powerflow system on my Octy, with no centre silencer and twin 2.5" round tailpipes, and it sounds fantastic. I'd have another one anyday (I got it 2nd hand for £150 about a year ago)

Mixed opinons there, which seems to be the case with everyone I ask. I think i would risk the powerflow if I could find a second hand one, but I think for a brand new system Ill get a blueflame, just concerned its going to be really loud.

Ill keep scanning ebay for another few weeks i think. Cant seem to find any offers from anywhere on any systems.

Cheers

I think it's always going to be subjective with exhausts.

I'm looking to change mine and half the time I want more noise, the other half I like the car to be almost silent.

Maybe the noise depends on the car. I dont think i have ever read of an octy vrs with after market exhaust described as being noisy. Usually its the other way.

I know what you mean...I think the blueflame will win, just trying to get hold of them. Its on ebay for 270 and 40 to fit at there factory.

Need to really hear some on a vRS i suppose...need a line up of different sounds. Have any of you notced any performance increases through the larger exhausts?

I have full blueflame turbo back and they sound louder than the miltek. You know you have a performance exhaust fitted. They are not too intrusive at tickover but on revs a very nice sound. If you are going for Cat back the fit on these systems is spot on.

If you get the turbo back Cat you will get more noise.

More recently (this week) my front down pipe/cat failed and blueflame are very helpful in providng me a reduced priced replacement (whilst working out if my one is still in warranty).

I have heard some negative comments on Blueflame service and other folks with the ealier 100cell cat having MOT issues(me one of them) , but talking to BlueFlame direct their after care service is spot on. This has raised my confidence that these are a good system.

Have you thought about Scorpion ??? Near Miltek quality at a little over blueflame price ? Good sound and fitment is A1 Give Unit18 a call for Briskoda price.

I've just put a Blue Flame cat back system on mine and it's a really nice fit. They clamps supplied with aren't brilliant though, managed to strip the threads on a couple. It's also fairly quiet, nice burble on tickover but when I'm driving I can't hear it over the whistle of the turbo. My mate heard me coming down the road the other day though and reckoned it sounded pretty good so it must be clearer from the outside.

Pipewerx. Can't recommend Ian enough. He can use the same as Blueflame, or will make it exactly as you want it. Good prices, excellent craftmanship, and brilliant exhaust.

He Founded Dub Sport back in the day, used to develop exhausts for Blueflame, in fact he did my Fabia and my Octavia there.

Powerflow really does depend on the staff that they have at your local centre. For instance, the one in Newcastle is utter sh*te. But I know people in other areas of the country that were quite happy with theirs. As a rule though, I'd stay clear of them.

Hi, I went a bit mad trying to decide soooo....I rang Blueflame who were great. Drove the 100 miles round trip and got the garage next to work to fit it for £30. Got the Cat Back with the oval for £270 (there ebay price)

It makes a nice burble on tickover (will this get ANY louder) but other than that the turbo is all i can hear inside, drove under a tuneel on the way home and could make out the deeper tone.

Thanks for all your opinons.

Matt

* Been driving it most of the night, starting to sound much better, the deep burble is getting louder and more noticable throughout the lower rev range :) smiles all round

Just like mine, more turbo noise than exhaust. I find mine gets a little bit louder when it's warm though.

What about performance?

Has the butt-dyno registered any change?

Not really...feels slighty more responsive and feels to rev quicker, reved it on the drive and it felt more lively if that makes more sense. It does sound good, need to get it on the rolling road i suppose. Its got a remap, filter, dv and this exhaust on now.

As its been raining all day cant really boot it around as it just spins, hopefully i can test to see if it feels quicker on the way to work in the morn. :)

Haven't put mine on the rollers again yet, but I have notice the turbo is getting up to full boost sooner. I assume that comes from the exhaust gases flowing more freely ?

Id agree with that, the green panel filter I put on, on monday made a big difference to how quickly it spooled. It certainly gets through the gears quickly, i upset an S3 driver earlier with it. He waited till he got along side then put his foot down, i just sat along side, think the skoda showed him hehehe :) (sorry thats off topic)

Same here. I have got an oval tail pipe, single box with no centre silencer.

I had it fitted about about 5 years ago now and it's still going strong.

At the time I was only doing it because a replacement back box from the dealer was extortionate and no one did an aftermarket OE style replacement.

My local Powerflow are good lads and take pride in what they are doing. I have heard other franchises are not to good though.

This is mine:
