Scraping noise when changing gear

Featured Replies

Hey all, got a fabia MPi

I have only just had it and it has started making a weird noise when changing

It seems to happen when I put the clutch in, and then when letting it out, when driving only.

IT doesnt happen when the car is stationery.

Any ideas?

Its more of a scrape than a knock. Very weird.

A worn clutch perhaps? Does it slip?

no it doesnt slip, its weird. Very weird. I know the thrust bearing is on its way out tho.

Well, it could the thrust bearing, or if the friction disc is equally worn, it could be the rivets on that starting to scrape the clutch cover.

Is the clutches biting point very close to the floor on the pedal??

Hmm, I dont know how far out its biting, I woud say its close to the floor.

The clutch is also very very light. Is this right on the skodas?

only 64k on the clock tho.

the clutch is usually quite light, and usually gets heavier as it wears. It's perfectly possible to have a worn-out clutch at 64 (or less).

yer its very light. I know the clutches can go, but this one seemed ok. I think the actual clutch itself is fine, I think there is something else going on in there.

Like the gearbox mount or something.

And it sounds like there is a bunch of keys rattlign round the engine when the clutch is out! :s
