remap with no rolling road.shoul i be Concerned?

hi, i've been offerred a remap but there's no rolling road session included before and/or after. Ive approached this remapper because they can offer me the sort of increase i want rather than going mad like a revo or jabba.

the remap and the company is very reputable but whatever reason they do not offer a RR.

not sure what to do now as i have booked my car in for the remap.Still more than a week away. I did ask for them to rolling road her but as said they dont use it for normal road cars. they will do the usual pre and post diagnostic check with vagcom and take it out for a drive with me after. And only if im happy i pay for it or i can have it put back to standard.

should i hedge my bets elsewhere?

or does a RR not matter that much?

If it's a generic remap then there is no need for a rolling road read out. My advise would be, once remapped take it to a rolling road day and get them to measure the boost and AFR as well as the usual. Then you will see how good or bad you map is.

have a look at the thread "post your remap figures" there is a guy there who has had a remap without knowin the results. me personally would not like to hand my cash over without actually gettin it on paper before and after figures. also for peice of mind so when people are talkin about power and torque you know how much differents it is to yours. up to you at the end of the day but if your not a million miles away id go jabba.

I like what it does, don't see why I need to know what the power is

Rolling roads vary a lot anyway

I told my insurance "stage 1 remap, no other engine mods" and they were happy with that too ....

mine was a generic map from angel tuning, no RR, we did a general meet and group buy for discount, all generic maps, that was done at 4,000 miles, now 76,000 miles and still happy, nothing serious has broken yet ;)

Rolling roads are only as accurate as the person operating them, and as it's usually the person who is remapping your car, they can fudge the figures (within reason) to make it look like it put out more or less bhp etc.

I really wouldn't be worried, RR figures have to be taken with a (sometimes large) pinch of salt anyway. It's much more about how the car drives. :thumbup:

So let me understand this, a place that has a RR and does remaps offers you a remap with the figures you like the sound of but wont use the RR to back up these figures? sounds odd to me.

try a local RR that uses a Dyno Dynamics RR, they will test it using a mode called 'shootout' which the dyno operators simply cannot adjust or get the calibration wrong by mistake meaning you get a true before and after power figure.

After having many remaps on various cars I wouldnt entertain any mobile 'tuners' (or wannabies with a laptop) or any tuners that dont use a dyno to test their own work as they carry out the remap. There are 2 types of companies that do remaps, firstly there are the 'file resellers' that buy files from the internet and copy and paste them to your ECU with no testing or real clue about what they are doing and then there are the pros that really understand what they are doing, write their own tuning files, do the tuning and testing themselfes and will backup their claims with figures from a modern dyno.

Your choice, I know what I would choose :)

And there's the people who are agents of other tuners who buy and flash tested and proven files from reputable companies. Don't dismiss everyone y'know :)

Either way it's still a piece of paper and will never give a true reading.

You do have a choice of course

Generic - remap for the average power increase nowt else considered.

Custom - remap on rolling road for more power, that your clutch can cope with, economy, driveability, smoothness.

Custom costs average £50 more but well worth it in the long run.

Because when you get a dyno written map it is far more accurate than a generic remap. Its not about the power figure or the piece of paper.

So which tuning company do you work for? ;)

yes they can. I received an email from them stating it would meaning spending half the day on the RR to get the figures i wanted. Cost would be £461+vat i think(from memory)

well my mate had an all out power map there, still took half a day! And i think the price is no different to any other custom map, its just that, custom.

My recent mapping has all been done based on various vagcom logs, and emailed files. It needs updating though soon. No rolling road involved and all data used for tweaking maps has been based on "on-road" stats taken on the laptop.
