Featured Replies

May sound completely pathetic but just recieved a new k&n panel filter and have no clue where to fit it, car goes in for a service next week but like a child with a new toy so must have it done now.

Any help would be appreciated its for a octy 1.9 tdi estate

Thanks in advance

No chance of looking more stupid than me, i had to ask the question!!!!

The airbox has torx screws holding it on. Undo them and the whole top comes off, don't go mad wrenching it up as the flexible bit is attached to the MAF housing. the panel filter will be horizontally positioned in the airbox.

*Edit* I have based this on my 2.0TDI. I have subsequently noticed you have a 1.9TDI so it way well be ME that looks stupid :o:rofl:

Simbo - 8 out of 10 OK for you??? :D

Only 8 out of 10? ...it'll do! ;)

So, was I:

a) Right

B) Nearly right

c) Way off the mark

d) ..insert your own

..

..

..

z) Go back to OT&CC and stay there Simbo, your car knowledge still sucks! :P

The K&N site shows the same part no. for both 1.9 and 2.0 so I am guessing they are the same  so I will go with A, have a gold star :D

My airbox is fastened with (6 iirc, could be wrong?) Phillips screws.

Got sidetracked tonight so going to have a good old fashioned bash at it tomorrow, will reply to questionaire tomorrow or let you know if im still utterly useless!!!

Hello mate. Although mine isn't the same engine, the airbox will be in a similar place. Just undo the screws that hold the lid of the airbox on and prize it up (no need to undo it from the MAF or anything). Note which way the filter fits in, take the filter out, and replace with your new one. Gently put the lid back on ensuring you havent caught any of the screws and making sure it is snug in the housing, then re do the screws up.

Not a bad idea to give the box itself a clean with a damp bit of kitchen roll whilst you've got it open.

Cant believe how easy it was!!!

6 Phillips screws, lift the lid up a bit remove the old filter and pop in the nice new shiny K&N one.

Big thanks to everyone for their help
